The requirements to obtain a visa to travel to México may vary depending on the purpose of the trip.

Visa application (English Version)
If you need to travel to Mexico for tourism for up to 6 months and you have a valid US Visa it is not necessary to apply for a Mexican visa. You only need to fill up a migratory form that will be provided in the plane or port of entry.

US Citizens can travel to Mexico without a visa or consular stamp on the passport. It is important to bear in mind that you should travel with a valid US passport or travel Document.
Foreigner of any country, who is a permanent resident of the United States or Canada, can travel to Mexico without a visa or a consular stamp on the passport. However, you should have with you a valid passport or Travel Document plus the US Resident Alien Card (Green Card) or seal I-555 or Immigrant visa, Permanent Resident Card (Canada).

REQUIREMENTS FOR MEXICAN TOURIST VISA
- Fill out Visa Application form.
- Apply at the Consular Section in person from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, Monday through Friday.
- Valid passport and one photocopy of the pages containing personal information, the photograph of bearer and expiration date/extensions.
- Valid US visa for multiple entries; at least with 6 months of validity at the time of your filing and one photocopy.
- Valid I-94 and/or I-20 or J1 or I797A Form in original and one photocopy.
- Letter of verification of employment or Financial records (the last three months of your bank statements, or pay stubs, or credit card statements and the actual credit card) with one photocopy.
- One (1) front view passport size photos, no glasses.
- Payment of Consular fee 36.00 dollars.
- Applicants, under 18 years old must present a notarized authorization, signed by both parents or by the one not travel with the minor and legal guardians, granting their permission to get their tourist visa.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A BUSINESS VISA
- Fill out the Visa Application form
- Apply at the Consular Section in person from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, Monday through Friday.
- Valid passport in original and one photocopy of the pages containing personal information, photograph of bearer and expiration date/extensions.
- Two (2) front view passport size photos, no glasses.
- Valid US visa for multiple entries; at least with 6 months of validity at the time of your filing and one photocopy.
- Valid I-94 in original and one photocopy.
- An Original Letter from the Company addressed to the Embassy of México Consular Section requesting the business visa and specifying the exact purpose and length of your trip to Mexico and how your expenses will be covered.
- Payment of Consular Fee: depending on the nationality and specifics details of the trip between $36.00 and $134.00 USD. In cash only.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A STUDENT VISA
- Valid passport for not less than one year from the date of application.
- Original letter of admission from the university or school where the applicant will enroll in México.
- A bank letter attested by a notary public. Sufficient funds to support himself in Mexico, from either the student himself, his (her) parents or legal guardian.
- A minimum monthly amount of $300.00 (three hundred dollars 00/100) will be required, or proof that he/she is the recipient of a scholarship.
- Two (2) front view passport size photos, no glasses.
- Applicants, under 18 years old must present a notarized authorization, signed by both parents or by the one not travel with the minor and legal guardians, granting their permission to get their tourist visa.
Those students who have received a scholarship granted by the Mexican government will submit, instead of the documents mentioned in these requirements, documentary proof of the scholarship being provided by the Mexican institution.
Exchange students will be required to produce a letter of support from the Mexican family with whom he/she will be residing.
Upon arrival the student should register at the Oficina del Registro Nacional de Extranjeros. Foreign students cannot engage in a profitable activity in Mexico.
A student enrolling for six months or less may travel to Mexico on a tourist card.
Students under 18 years of age must secure from both their parents a notarized authorization to travel.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A RETIREES VISA
- Fill out the Visa Application form.
- Apply at the Consular Section in person from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, Monday through Friday.
- Valid passport in original and one photocopy of the pages containing personal information, photograph of bearer and expiration date/extensions.
- Two (2) front view passport size photos, no glasses.
- Payment of the Consular Fee: 134.00 US Dollars. Cash Only.
- Proof of economic solvency: Applicant must prove a monthly income of $1,000.00 USD dollars, or equivalent in Mexican currency.
- Police letter clearance
- If the applicant will be accompanied by members of his immediate family, the minimum income required will be $500.00 additionally per month for each member 15 years of age or older.
- The documents accepted as a proof are:
Last three months of Bank statements, Social Security Statement or Pension Receipts; such documents must be notarized and bear the Apostille Seal (see linked info) issued by the Secretary of State of the State where the documents were notarized.

Under this status applicants cannot work in México nor engage in a profitable activity. They are eligible to import temporarily household’s effects and automobile.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A JOURNALIST VISA
The Consulate is authorized to issue visas for 90 days to journalist traveling to Mexico for coverage of special events, for which they have been duly accredited. Should a journalist require a visa for a longer period or to be assigned as a correspondent in Mexico, their company should apply for visa directly with the National Immigration Institute in Mexico. Some journalistic activities, such as conducting interviews with Mexican officials, must be availed by the National Immigration Institute of Mexico

- Valid passport in original and one photocopy of the pages containing personal information, photograph of bearer and expiration date/extensions.
- Valid US visa for multiple entries; at least with 6 months of validity at the time of your filing and one photocopy, or original United States Permanent Resident Alien Card (Green Card) and 1 photocopy.
- Valid I-94 in original and one photocopy.
- Original Press ID and 1 photocopy.
- Letter from the Company (media sponsor) stating:
- Event to be covered.
- Expected stay in Mexico.
- Who will cover his/her expenses
- Two front view passport size photos, without glasses.
Please keep in mind that journalist visas are exclusively for coverage of events taking place in Mexico or research on such events.
