(Non-Lucrative) Visa for visitors WITHOUT authorization for lucrative activities

This type of visa is applicable if:

• You are traveling to Mexico for vacations, transit, business, technical activities, artistic activities, scientific activities, sport activities, correspondent or journalist, ministers of religion.
• You will be in Mexico for up to 180 days.
• You do not have work authorization.

Requirements:

3. Present valid passport in original and one photocopy of the pages containing personal information, photograph of bearer and expiration date/extensions. Facing front.

4. Present proof of legal US entrance (only for non-U.S. citizens):

• Valid US visa for multiple entries and one photocopy
• Valid I-94 and one photocopy
• I-20/J-1 or I-797A Form in original and one photocopy

5. Present one photo passport size, in color, no glasses.

6. Proof financial solvency, with one of the following options:

OPTION A) Investment or bank accounts with a monthly average balance of at least 300 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City. To prove this, you need to provide:

i. Original financial records of your bank statements by the bank of each of the previous 3 months. OR

ii. The printouts of your electronic bank statements PLUS a recent letter from your financial institution indicating your full name (no omissions), the details about your account, and the balance of each of the previous 3 months. The letter must be signed by hand.

OPTION B) Employment or pension of at least a monthly income of 100 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City after taxes, during each of the previous 3 months. You must provide one of the following:

i. Pension: Original letter from the Social Security or Pension issuer indicating the monthly amount that you receive PLUS the bank statements in which that amount is reflected or the pension receipts for each of the last 3 months. OR

ii. Employment: Original letter from your employer stating your employment commencement date (must be at least 1 year ago), position title, the salary you receive PLUS all paystubs for the last 3 months and bank statements in which that amount is reflected. The letter must include your full name as it appears in your passport and must be signed by hand (no electronic signatures or photocopies of the original will be accepted).

OPTION C) Original and copy of legal documentation of any property under your name in the US for the last 2 years and original letter from your employer stating your employment commencement date (must be at least 2 years ago), position title, the salary you receive.

OPTION D) If a company/organization in Mexico is sponsoring or inviting the foreign national, the applicant can submit an original invitation letter*.

Original Invitation Letter from the company/organization based in Mexico must be addressed to the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin requesting the visa and specifying:

• Exact purpose or activity and length of time for the trip to Mexico.
• How will the expenses be covered.
• Applicant´s full name and nationality.
• Registration number of the company/organization, plus address, complete name and contact information of the company/organization.
• Specify commitment of financial shared responsibility with the applicant.
• Copy of ID of the person who signed the invitation letter.
• Last twelve months of company bank account statements with a monthly average amount of at least 1000 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City.

NOTE: If you are 65 or older, you do not need to prove financial solvency, but you have to prove that you will travel to Mexico as a tourist (flight itinerary).

NOTE: Minors (under 18 years old) must be accompanied by parents (or legal guardian) and to submit original and official documentation proving filiation (relationship between parents and child) or legal status as a legal guardian

(Lucrative) Visa for visitors with authorization for lucrative activities

• If the purpose of entering into Mexico is working there and you will receive a salary or payment (lucrative activities), your employer must request prior authorization from the National Immigration Institute in Mexico. After your application is approved, your employer will receive an authorization number (NUT number) for you.
• As soon as the NUT authorization has been issued you must be in contact with this Consulate in order to schedule one appointment and to process a visa. You will have 30 days to get in touch with a Mexican Consulate in the US in order to request a visa appointment.

6. Please be aware that you will have to present all the documents, as well as the following:

• Job offer letter from the company that is sponsoring you, which should include the job that you will have and the salary that you will perceive.
• Copy of employer’s registration to the National Immigration Institute.
• Copy of ID of employer’s legal representative (the person whose name in shown in the other documents).

Visa for the purpose of adoption

This type of visa is for you if: 

• You are traveling to Mexico in order to complete the legal process to adopt a child.
• You have received an approval to be matched with to a child (informe de adoptabilidad o pre-asignación) issued by the “State System for the Full Development of the Family” (Sistema Nacional para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia, -DIF-).

Requirements:

5. Report of approval to be matched with a child (informe de adoptabilidad o pre-asignación) Issued by the “State System for the Full Development of the Family” (Sistema Nacional para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia - DIF). Original and 1 copy.

6. Letter of acceptance of the child’s adoption (aceptación de la asignación del menor y de continuación del procedimiento de adopción) issued by the Central Authority in Mexico). Original and 1 copy.

Visa for temporary residents

This type of visa is for you if:

• You are traveling to Mexico for retirement, investments, professional activities, technical activities, artistic activities, scientific activities, and sport activities or as a minister of religion.
• You will be in Mexico more than 180 days and less than 4 years.
• You don´t have a work authorization.

Requirements:

OPTION A) Investment or bank accounts with a monthly ending balance of at least 5000 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City. To prove this, you need to provide:

i. Original financial records of your bank statements by the bank of each of the previous 12 months. OR

OPTION B) Employment or pension that yields a monthly income of at least 300 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City after taxes, during each of the previous 6 months. You must provide one of the following:

i. Pension: Original letter from the Social Security or Pension issuer indicating the monthly amount that you receive PLUS the bank statements in which that amount is reflected or the pension receipts for each of the last 6 months. OR

ii. Employment: Original letter from your employer stating your employment commencement date (must be at least 1 year ago), position title, the salary you receive PLUS all paystubs for the last 6 months and bank statements in which that amount is reflected. The letter must include your full name as it appears in your passport and must be signed by hand (no electronic signatures or photocopies of the original will be accepted).

OPTION C): You can also submit official documents issued by Mexican Notary proving the ownership of a property/company/business and one photocopy with a minimum value of 20,000 daily minimum wages. 

OPTION D) If a company/organization/association in Mexico is sponsoring or inviting the foreign national, the applicant can submit an original invitation letter*. Ministers of religion should submit original letter of consent (anuencia) by the Ministry of the Interior (Secretaría de Gobernación) from Mexico.

* Invitation Letter

• Original Invitation Letter (with handwritten signature) from the company/organization/association based in Mexico must be addressed to the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin requesting the visa and specifying:
  
  • Applicant´s full name and nationality.
  • Registration number of the company/organization, plus address, complete name and contact information of the company/organization.
  • How will your expenses be covered.
  • Information regarding the activities the applicant will be doing.  
  • Specify commitment of financial shared responsibility with the applicant.
  • Copy of ID of the person who signed the invitation letter.
  • Original and copy of document to proof the applicant has the experience, capacity, knowledge or abilities necessaries to perform the activities requested. 
  • Last 12 months of company bank account statements with a monthly average amount of at least 10000 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City.

Temporary Resident Students

This type of visa is for you if:

• You are traveling to study in Mexico.
• You don´t have a work authorization.

Requirements:

• I-20/J-1 or I-797A Form in original and one photocopy

OPTION A) Investment or bank accounts with a monthly ending balance of at least 1000 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City. To prove this, you need to provide:

i. Original financial records of your bank statements by the bank of each of the previous 3 months. OR

OPTION B) Employment, pension or scholarships that yields a monthly income of at least 100 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City after taxes, during each of the previous 3 months. You must provide one of the following:

i. Pension: Original yearly Social Security Statement indicating the monthly amount that you receive PLUS the bank statements in which that amount is reflected or the pension receipts for each of the last 3 months. OR

ii. Employment: Original letter from your employer stating your employment commencement date (must be at least 1 year ago), position title, the salary you receive PLUS all paystubs for the last 3 months and bank statements in which that amount is reflected. The letter must include your full name as it appears in your passport and must be signed by hand (no electronic signatures or photocopies of the original will be accepted).

iii. Scholarship: Original letter from the academic institution stating the scholarship provided, which in all cases must be at least 100 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City after taxes. 

NOTE. The proof of economic solvency can be through your parents’ accounts in case you are under 25 years old or through a letter from the academic institution stating that you will receive a scholarship.

Permanent residents

This type of visa is applicable if:

• You are moving to Mexico to be there indefinitely.
• You don´t have a work authorization.
• You are retired. (Officially retired by Social Security Administration or you are at least 62 years old). 

Requirements:

OPTION B) Pension that yields a monthly income of at least 500 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City after taxes, during each of the previous 6 months. You must provide one of the following:

i. Pension: Original yearly Social Security Statement indicating the monthly amount that you receive PLUS the bank statements in which that amount is reflected or the pension receipts for each of the last 6 months.
