In Mexico, only cats and dogs are considered pets for purposes of regulation
Upon arriving to Mexico with your pet you must contact the staff of SAGARPA-SENASICA who will conduct a brief physical inspection and prompt compliance with the following requirements:
1) A Health Certificate in original and a copy, it should be printed on letterhead, with the professional license number or a photocopy of the license and signature in original. This certificate must be issued within 15 days prior to your travel date.
You must provide the following information:
• Name and address of the exporter and importer (address of origin and destination address in Mexico).
• Vaccine record against rabies, indicating the date of application and expiration date of the vaccine. Pets under 3 months of age are exempt of this requirement.
• That inspection prior to the trip the animals were clinically healthy.
If the requirements above are not met, you may request the services of a Mexican licensed Medical Veterinarian of your choice and at your expense, to issue a new valid health certificate and /or apply the treatment required.
2) The pet must enter Mexico in a container, Kennel or otherwise, clean, without bed and cloth material or accessories, otherwise they will be retained by the staff of SAGARPA-SENASICA for official destruction.
3) You may bring dry food in bulk, corresponding to your pet ‘s daily ration for the duration of the trip, or a bundle of 50lb per family or its equivalent in kg is accepted, may be submitted in one package or up to two always it does not exceed the allowable amount.
The packages must be an unopened bag properly labeled in English or Spanish, stamped by the food inspection authority.
Remember that compliance with the regulations established by SAGARPA-SENASICA do not exempt you from compliance with regulations of other authorities at the point of entry into Mexico.
