Si alguna persona de origen mexicano fallece en Estados Unidos y sus familiares desean trasladar su cuerpo o cenizas a México, el consulado ofrece orientación, asesoría y apoyo para realizar los trámites y obtener la documentación necesaria.

Traslado de restos:

Los requisitos para la repatriación de restos de cuerpo presente, son los siguientes:

1) Probatorio de nacionalidad, tales como pasaporte, matrícula Consular o acta de nacimiento.
2) Original del Acta de Defunción apostillada y traducida al español con el certificado de traducción.
3) Certificado de Embalsamamiento apostillado y traducido al español, citando el número de la licencia del embalsamador, el nombre del fallecido, tal como aparece en su identificación mexicana, así como el tratamiento que se aplicó al cadáver. El Certificado de Embalsamamiento se debe expedir conforme a las normas y reglamentos establecidos en los Estados Unidos de América.
4) Presentar el original y copia del Permiso Oficial de Tránsito de Cadáver, no tiene que estar apostillada pero sí traducido al español y certificado.
5) Certificado Oficial del Médico Forense.- El certificado debe también exponer que la causa de la muerte no se debió a enfermedad contagiosa, y que no existe enfermedad contagiosa alguna en la jurisdicción de su Oficina, apostillado y traducido al español y certificado.
a) En caso de que la persona falleciera con alguna enfermedad contagiosa, los restos deberán ir sellados en un contenedor hermético de acuerdo a las normas y reglamentos establecidos en los Estados Unidos de América y la aerolínea que transporte el féretro.

Traslado de Cenizas:

1) Probatorio de nacionalidad, tales como pasaporte, matrícula Consular o acta de nacimiento
2) Original del Acta de Defunción apostillada y traducida al español y certificada
3) Original del certificado de Cremación y su traducción al español y certificada (sin apostilla).
4) Presentar el original del Permiso Oficial de Tránsito de Cenizas y su traducción al español (sin apostilla).

IMPORTANTE

Sí el cuerpo o las cenizas tienen como destino final la Ciudad de México o va a pasar por la Ciudad de México, requerirán un Certificado de Defunción mexicana, si este es el caso, debe comunicarse al correo Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. Si el destino final es otro estado no requieren el Certificado de Defunción mexicana.

If a person of Mexican origin dies in the United States and the relatives would like to transfer the body or ashes to Mexico, the Consulate offers guidance, advice and support to carry out the procedure and obtain the necessary documentation.

Transfer of remains:

The requirements for the repatriation of human remains are the following:

1) Proof of nationality, such as passport, consular ID or birth certificate.
2) Original of the Death Certificate, apostilled and translated into Spanish with the translation certified.
3) Embalming Certificate apostilled and translated into Spanish, citing the embalmer's license number, the name of the deceased, as it appears on their Mexican identification, as well as the treatment applied to the corpse. The Embalming Certificate must be issued in accordance with the rules and regulations established in the United States of America.
4) Submit the original and a copy of the Official Transit Permit, it doesn’t have to be apostilled but it must be translated into Spanish and certified.
5) Official Certificate of the Chief Medical Examiner. - The certificate must state the cause of death was not due to a contagious disease, and that there’s no contagious disease in the jurisdiction of your office, apostilled and translated into Spanish and certified.
a) In case that the deceased had passed away with a contagious disease the following requisite must be met: the remains must be enclosed in an hermetic container with the accordance with the rules and regulations established in the United States of America and the airline that will transport the casket.

Transfer of Ashes:

1) Proof of nationality, such as passport, consular ID or birth certificate
2) Original of the Death Certificate apostilled and translated into Spanish and certified
3) Original of the Cremation certificate and the translation into Spanish and certified (without apostille).
4) Present the original of the Official Transit Permit and its translation into Spanish (without apostille).

IMPORTANT

If the final destination of the body or ashes is Mexico City or if it is going to pass through Mexico City, a Mexican Death Certificate is required. If the final destination is another state, then the Mexican Death Certificate will not be required.
