THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF MEXICO IN CHICAGO INVITES:
Students that wish to intern at this Consulate and have the opportunity to participate in projects related to their fields of study and in addition, become familiar with the operation and structure of the Consulates of Mexico, as well as the daily issues that face the Mexican community in the Midwest.
Requirements:
Letter of intent stating the reasons why you would like to carry out your internship at the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago; the department(s) you would prefer to work in; and the duration of the internship (specify beginning and end date, and days and hours you can work each week).

- One copy of an official photo identification.
- Resume or Curriculum Vitae.
- Two passport photos.
- Enrollment verification (all interns must be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate institution).
- Bilingual (English and Spanish).
Departments internship may be carried out in:
- Consular Protection (Legal Advising)
- Documentation (passports, consular identification cards, etc.)
- Information Technology
- Institute for Mexicans Abroad (Mexican Communities)
- Press
- Political Affairs
- Culture
- Administration

Projects to be Developed in the Department of Consular Protection for Mexicans
Area: Civil Matters

Advise Mexican families whose under age children have been placed under the custody of the State.

Monitor the development of the cases of these families before the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

Orient women who have been victims of domestic violence.

Process and monitor alimony cases among Mexico and the U. S.

Advise families that face problems of abduction and retention of minors (Mexico-U.S.).or undue retention of smaller (Mexico – US).

Promote talks of preventive protection to the Mexican community so that they know their rights and obligations in civil matters in the United States.

Area: Immigration Matters

Promote talks regarding preventive protection among members of the Mexican community with the objective that they become familiar with the dispositions established within the Law of Immigration.

Process the various requests for information of Mexican Nationals detained in the immigration detention centers.

Prepare informative electronic reports, that will be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, regarding immigration protection efforts.

Obtain information from the Clerk’s to understand the Mexican judicial process.

Contact lawyers representing the Mexican Nationals in order to coordinate efforts on their defense.

Negotiate before the Mexican authorities in an effort to obtain criminal background checks of the Mexican Nationals facing trial, as well as documentation of their level of studies.

Participate in the hearings of Mexican Nationals before the courts.

Process the requests written by the persons under arrest, especially report on requests about the procedures regarding the Treaty of Execution of Criminal Sentences in Mexico.

Promote talks of preventive protection among the Mexican community regarding their rights and obligations in criminal matters, especially what to do at moment of an arrest and the prevention of the police abuse.

Report to Mexico with regards to the work carried out in favor of Mexican Nationals through the private electronic system of consular protection.
