Important notice: Please note that as of January 1, 2020, foreigners applying for a visa must pay the $54.00 fee in order to process their application regardless of whether or not they obtain the visa.
VISA APPOINTMENTS: Visa appointments are scheduled ONLY through email. To request an appointment, please send an email to visasdet@sre.gob.mx and confirm that you have read and have the documents and requirements stipulated in the Visas section below, confirming the following information:
- Full name (Number of people applying for visa and their names)
- Nationality
- Purpose or reason for visiting Mexico: Tourism, Business, Authorized work, Student, Temporary Residence, Permanent Residence (Retired and/or retired).
Presenting the required visa documentation does not guarantee that a visa will be issued. The file is still subject to review and approval.
THERE ARE NO EMERGENCY VISA APPOINTMENTS.
General Information:
- Effective March 1st, 2010, all US Citizens are required to present a valid US Passport * when entering Mexico by air, land, or sea.
- US Permanent Residents traveling by air, land, or sea to Mexico are required to present a valid Permanent Residency Card, as well as a valid passport * from their country of origin or travel document.
- Non-US Permanent Residents. Starting May 1st, 2010, all foreign nationals who visit Mexico for tourist, business, or transit matters will not need a Mexican visa as long as they have a valid US visa in their passport. A valid visa from Canada, Japan, UK or any other country pertaining to the Schengen Space (from May 18, 2016, onwards)
- Any document accrediting permanent residency in Canada, the United States of America Japan, UK, or any other country pertaining to the Schengen Space or any Member Country of the Alianza del Pacifico (from July 1st, 2016 onwards)
- If the US visa stamped in your passport* already expired, but you have an official document or form proving your legal status in the United States, you should apply for a Non-Lucrative visa at this Consulate. (Please note that I-797 A Forms, Advance Parole Forms, I-20 OR DS-2019 Forms will not be sufficient to enter Mexico)
- For Diplomatic and Official visas, please contact the Visa Department at the Mexican Consulate.
- It is recommendable that the passports should have at least 6 months of validity before expiration.

FMM Forms
If you were in Mexico and did not return the FMM Form (Multiple Immigration Form) to the Immigration Authorities there; you can deliver it to this office during working hours (8:00 to 1:00 pm, Monday to Friday) along with a copy of your passport, (no appointment needed).
Criminal record
If the applicant is subject to a criminal process or has been convicted of a serious crime, immigration authorities may decide to refuse the request to enter the country (as defined by national laws on criminal matters or provisions on international treaties or conventions that the Mexican State is party
