General Information:

You NEED a Visa to visit Mexico as a tourist if:

You DO NOT need to process a Mexican Visa (as long as the visit time is less than 180 days) if:

  • You are a citizen of the United States of America (with valid and up to date passport).
  • You are visiting Mexican maritime ports by cruise (If the cruise docks, you must consult with cruise company).
  • You are a US Permanent Resident and have BOTH a valid and unexpired Resident Card AND Passport.
  • You have a current, unexpired US Visa stamped in your current and unexpired passport.
    • Stamped Visa or Resident Card must be valid during your lengths of stay in Mexico.
  • You are a national from Ukraine, Russia, and Turkey.
  • You are a holder of an APEC Business Travel Card-ABTC.
  • You are a National, Visa holder, or Permanent Resident of:
    • Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.
    • Canada
    • Japan
    • Great Britain
    • Any of the countries of the Schengen Area:
  • All foreigners, regardless their nationality, are required to present a valid and not expired passport or travel document when entering Mexico (traveling by air, land or sea)
  • Holders of travel documents issued by the United States must present a Permanent Resident Card when entering Mexico if their nationality is on the list contained in the following link:

  • If the Permanent Resident Card or U.S. Visa stamped in your passport is expired and you have documentation or immigration form to prove your legal stay in the country (Forms I-797 A, Advance Parole, Forms I-20 or DS-2019 are not accepted documents for entry into Mexico), you need to apply for a Mexican Visa.

Traveling with Pets

  • To import pets into Mexico, you must meet the requirements of the National Department of Health, Food Safety and Food Quality, SENASICA. The pet will be screened at the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Offices (OISA) located at international airports, border crossings and international seaports.

Types of Visas

The procedure to obtain a visa can take more than 15 business days from the interview. The issuance of the document on the same day of your appointment is not guaranteed. If you will be traveling exclusively to process your visa to Fresno, we suggest you consider the length of your stay in the city for the process.

NOTE: Minors (less than 18 years old), must apply for a visa accompanied by both parents or the person exercising parental authority or guardianship, who will need to present documentation that proves their parentage. If one of the parents is not present during the interview, the other must present a notarized letter, translated into Spanish and apostilled in which consent is granted for the minor to obtain a visa and travel to Mexico:

The fee will be collected at the consular interview and is nonrefundable. Payment of the application does not guarantee the approval or issuance of the requested visa.

Visa (Non-Profit) for visitors without permission to carry out remunerated activities

Tourism/Business/Transit

This type of visa is for you if:

  • You are traveling to Mexico for tourism, transit, business, technical, artistic, sports activities, journalist or correspondent; and minister or religious associate.
  • You will be in Mexico for a stay no longer than 180 days.
  • You do not have an offer or employment authorization.

Process:

  1. Schedule an appointment at MiConsulado.
  2. Requirements:
    1. Application
    2. b. Valid passport in original and photocopy of the pages that contain information such as photography, validity dates of the passport, as well as valid visas from other countries.

    3. Valid United States of America visa, with multiple entries and a photocopy

    4. d.Valid I-94 and one photocopy

    5. I-20/J-1 or I-797A Form in original and one photocopy (For non US citizens)

    6. f.One photo passport size, in color, no glasses.

    7. g. Original financial records (last three months of your bank account statements in US Dollars, last three months of pay stubs) and employment letter specifying your position and salary

    8. If a company/organization in Mexico is sponsoring or inviting the foreign national, the applicant must submit an original invitation letter*. The invitation must have a letterhead, address and signed in ink. Scanned or pdf versions won´t be accepted.

    9. Payment ($54 USD).

If you are able to prove that you are a frequent international traveler (you travel more than 3 times a year to third countries other than Mexico), if you are the spouse of a Mexican citizen or if you are an international freight transport driver and have a license of this type and express letter from your company that hired you, you could qualify for a Long-Term Visa.

NOTE: Minors (less than 18 years old), must apply for a visa accompanied by both parents or the person exercising parental authority or guardianship, who will need to present documentation that proves their parentage. If one of the parents is not present during the interview, the other must present a notarized letter, translated into Spanish and apostilled in which consent is granted for the minor to obtain a visa and travel to Mexico.

*Letter of Invitation

  • The Letter of Invitation is a letter issued by a public or private organization or institution, in which the foreigner is invited to participate in some non-remunerated activity in national territory. This must be submitted in original and must be addressed to the Consulate General of Mexico in Fresno. Said letter must specifically contain the following information:
    • Full name of the applicant,
    • Denomination or business name,
    • Registration number and object of the organization,
    • Full address and contact information of the Institution,
    • Activity that the guest will carry out and that must be related to the purposes of the inviting Organization or Institution,
    • Duration of the activity to be carried out,
    • Support commitment,
    • Official identification of the signatory.

(Lucrative) Work permit authorization for lucrative activities

If the purpose of your trip to Mexico is for employment reasons or your services or salary will be paid in Mexico (lucrative activities). The company/organization/individual must process an authorization before the National Migration Institute (INM) in Mexico. Once your stay has been authorized, you will receive a Unique Processing Number (NUT). Once you have received said NUT or authorization number, you must schedule an appointment for your interview and issuance of the corresponding visa.

Temporary Resident Visa

This type of visa is for you if:

  • You are traveling to Mexico for retirement, investments, professional activities, technical activities, artistic, sports, or as a minister or religious associate.
  • You will be in Mexico for a longer stay to 180 days.
  • You do not have an offer or authorization of employment.

Requirements:

  1. Schedule an appointment at MiConsulado.
  2. Requirements:
    1. Application
    2. Valid passport and a photocopy of the pages containing information such as a photograph, passport validity dates, as well as valid visas from other countries.
    3. Valid United States of America visa, with multiple entries and a photocopy.
    4. Forms I-94 and/or I-20; J-1 or I-797A original (For non US citizens)
    5. One photo (passport size, in color, no glasses)
    6. Documents that prove economic solvency such as: a) the last 12 months of your bank account statement in US dollars; b) the last 12 months of salary payment stubs and original letter of employment specifying the date you were hired and the total amount of your annual tax-free salary; c) you can present the original deed, as well as other official documents, in order to prove that you are the owner of a house/apartment/company or business in Mexico and a photocopy of them, d)If you are retired, you will need an official letter from the institution granting a pension, accompanied by bank statements of the last 6 months.
    7. If a company or organization is financing or inviting you to participate in a specific project, research, etc., the interested party must present an original letter of invitation* with letterhead, address and signed in ink (scanned or pdf versions are not acceptable). In addition to statements of accounts of the institution or organization with annual average balance. Religious Ministers or Associates may also present a Letter of Consent from the Secretary of the Interior of Mexico instead of the Letter of Invitation. You must also present documents that prove that you have the experience, capacity, skills or knowledge necessary to carry out the activity for which you are invited.
    8. If you have a family relationship (parent, spouse or children) with a temporary or permanent resident card of Mexico or with a Mexican citizen, you must present documentation that proves your family relationship (such as a marriage certificate, or documents that proves concubinage, or original birth certificate), as well as the original card of the holder of the temporary or permanent residence, or passport of the Mexican citizen. Your relative must be present during the consular interview.
    9. Payment ($54 USD).

* Invitation Letter

  • The Invitation Letter is a letter issued by a public or private organization or institution, in which the foreigner is invited to participate in some non-remunerated activity in national territory. This must be submitted in original and must be addressed to the Consulate General of Mexico in Fresno. Said letter must specifically contain the following information:
    • Full name of the applicant,
    • Denomination or business name,

Temporary Resident Visa (Student)

This type of visa is for you if:

  • You enter Mexico in order to partake in courses, studies, research projects or training that are carried out in institutions of the National Educational System.
  • You are a scholarship holder of the Government of Mexico.
  • You do not have employment authorization.

Requirements:

  1. Schedule an appointment at MiConsulado.
  2. Requirements:
    1. Application
    2. Valid passport in original and photocopy of the pages that contain information such as photography, validity dates of the passport, as well as valid visas of other countries.
    3. Valid United States of America visa, with multiple entries and a photocopy.
    4. Forms I-94 and/or I-20; J-1 or I-797A original and one copy (For non US citizens)
    5. One photo (passport size, in color, no glasses)
    6. Acceptance letter from educational institution containing the following data (original and copy):
    • Applicant’s full name (Family name and given name as shown at the national passport)
    • Level of Study/ Degree (Specifying degree or type of diploma)
    • Field/Program of Study (General academic or subject areas)
    • Name of Program/Studies/Course (Specific name of the course/program of studies exchange program, internship, etc.)
    • Length of Program (Date a program begins and date of completion)
    • Tuition fee (Total fees required, including tuition and homestay if applicable)
    • Full name of institution and additional information (The letter must include name of the institution, mailing address, telephone, fax number, e-mail, Web site, and name of contact.)
    • Others (The letter must be issued with letterhead, address, and signature (in ink) on institution representative)
  1. Finance (Proof of either)

· Economic Solvency (one of the 3)

    • Present the last 12 months of bank statements, the last 12 months of bank statements or proof of salary that prove a permanent income of at least $7,458.00 USD.
    • Or a letter from the Institution indicating that they have a scholarship or other type of financing such as a trust or loan from a Mexican or foreign financial institution.
    • Or letter of scholarship from the Government of Mexico.

· Financed by a third party

Financed by the parents or guardian (only applies to students under 25 years of age):

    • Original letter from the parents indicating that they will be financially responsible for sending their son/daughter or beneficiary, the monthly amount of at least $746.00 USD, in addition to the payment of tuition or tuition (Affidavit of support).
    • Copy of official identification of the parents (valid passports) and birth certificate of the student (original and a photocopy).
    • Proof of economic solvency, including the presentation of the last 3 months of bank statements and employment letter, specifying your position and annual salary, showing that you have a permanent income of at least $746.00 USD from the last 3 months.
  1. Payment of visa fees ($54 USD)

NOTE: Minors (less than 18 years old), must apply for a visa accompanied by both parents or the person exercising parental authority or guardianship, who will need to present documentation that proves their parentage. If one of the parents is not present during the interview, the other must present a notarized letter, translated into Spanish and apostilled in which consent is granted for the minor to obtain a visa and travel to Mexico.

Permanent Resident Visa

This type of visa is for you if:

  • You are retired and/or pensioned and have supporting documents
  • You will move to live in Mexico for an indefinite period.
  • He does not have a job offer.

Requirements:

2. Requirements:

a) Application

b) Original valid passport and a photocopy of the pages containing information such as a photograph, passport validity dates, as well as valid visas from other countries.

c) Valid United States of America visa, with multiple entries and a photocopy.

d) Forms I-94 and/or I-20; J-1 or I-797A original and one copy (For non US citizens)

e) One photo (passport size, in color, no glasses)

f) Documents from a Mexican or foreign credit institution or similar financial institution or trust, where it is confirmed that the applicant has sufficient resources from abroad and that the returns they produce or their investments in the country will obtain benefits. The documents to prove solvency are: a) last 12 months of your bank statement in US dollars, b) the last 12 months of salary pay stubs, original letter of employment specifying the date you were hired and the total amount of your tax-free annual salary, c) If you are retired, you will need an official letter from the institution granting a pension, accompanied by bank statements of the last 6 months.

g) If you have a family relationship (parent, spouse, or children) with a permanent resident of Mexico or with a Mexican citizen, you must present documentation that proves your family relationship (such as a marriage certificate, or document that proves concubinage, original birth certificate), as well as the original card of the holder of the permanent residence, or passport of the Mexican citizen. Your relative must be present during the consular appointment.
