INFORMACIÓN DE VISAS

VISA GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Applicants that DO NOT NEED A MEXICAN VISA to travel to Mexico for less than 180 days:
  • American citizens.
  • Visa Holders: Applicants that have a US valid visa, or Canada Valid Visa, or valid visa from any country of the Schengen Zone, or Japan Valid Visa or UK valid visa.
  • “Green Card” Holders: applicants that have a Permanent Resident Card of the United States, Canada, Japan, UK or any country member of the “Alianza del Pacífico”.

 

  • Forms I-797 A, Advance Parole, Forms I-20 or DS-2019 are not accepted documents for entry to Mexico. If the visa of the United States in your passport is expired, you must apply for a Mexican visa  in order to travel to Mexico. Applicants must be  legally in the USA at the moment of applying for a Mexican visa.

  • No assurances regarding the issuance of visas can be given in advance. 
  • Therefore final travel plans or the purchase of nonrefundable flight/travel tickets should not be made until a visa has been issued. 
  • The physical presence of the applicant at the Consulate is an absolute requirement.
  • No walk-ins, by appointment only.
  • Applications are individual.
  • On the day of the appointment, the applicant will pay in cash the visa fee. The consular staff will collect applicants’ documents and also will collect biometric data (photograph and fingerprints according to Mexican norms), a consular officer will conduct an interview.
  • Some visa applications require further administrative processing, which takes additional time after the visa applicant’s interview.  After the interview, the applicant will be informed what process to follow.
  • Payment of the application DOES NOT GUARANTEE the approval or issuance of the requested visa.
  • In case the visa is approved, the Consulate DOES NOT GUARANTEE the issuance of the visa the same day of the interview. 
  • The procedure to obtain a visa can take up to ten business days. Although we make the best effort to process your procedure in the shortest possible time, the issuance of the document is not guaranteed  the same day of the request.
  • If you are traveling to Omaha exclusively to process your visa, we suggest you consider a minimum stay of three business days in the city for the process.
  • If the issuance of the visa is denied, the applicant may apply again if there is new evidence to overcome the basis for the refusal, the applicant will have to schedule another appointment.
  • The  fee is not refundable, regardless of the outcome of the process.
  • Visas can be picked up PERSONALLY,  they  will not be mailed.
  • Marriage certificates or birth certificates from a country different from the U.S. need to have the apostille or legalization stamp.
  • Any official documents that are not issued by United States authorities need to be legalized/apostilled. Also, they will be required to have a certified translation if the documents are in a different language than Spanish and or English.
  • If a permanent resident visa or temporary resident visa is approved, you must deliver it to the INM offices in order to get your residence card. You must deliver it to the INM  office in Mexico within the next 30 calendar days after the date of entry in Mexico.

  • Applicants for visas should be residents in Iowa or Nebraska. It is important to apply for a visa well in advance of the travel departure date.

 

REQUIREMENTS PER CATEGORY

 VISITOR VISA NOT AUTHORIZED TO PERFORM PAID ACTIVITIES. STAY UP TO 180 

Requirements:

  • Valid passport in original plus a photocopy of the pages that contain information such as photography, validity dates of the passport, as well as visas.
  • One passport size photo (1.5 x 1.3 / 4 inches), in color, without glasses.
  • Proof of your legal status in the U.S. (this only applies for non-U.S. citizens) you can provide the original and copy of your US Visa, entry stamp, ESTA (Electronic System Travel Authorization) or resident card.
  • Financial Solvency (either option a or b)
  1. a) Investment or bank accounts with a monthly ending balance of at least 300 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City (minimum wage is $279.00). To prove this, you need to provide: i. The printouts of your electronic bank statements certified (signed and/or stamped) by the bank of each of the previous 3 months. OR ii. The printouts of your electronic bank statements PLUS a letter from your financial institution indicating your full name (no omissions), the details about your account, and the balance of each of the previous 3 months. The letter must be signed by hand. OR
  2. b) Employment or pension that yields a monthly income of at least 100 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City (minimum wage is $279.00) after taxes, during each of the previous 3 months. You must provide one of the following: i. Pension: Original letter from the Social Security or Pension issuer indicating the monthly amount that you receive PLUS the bank statements in which that amount is reflected or the pension receipts for each of the last 3 months. OR ii. Employment: Original letter from your employer stating your employment commencement date (must be at least 1 year ago), position title, the salary you receive PLUS all paystubs for the last 3 months. The letter must include your full name as it appears in your passport and must be signed by hand (no electronic signatures or photocopies of the original will be accepted).
  • Payment of consular fees for visa issuance of 54 USD in cash.

 

NOTE:

  • Minors (under 18 years old) must apply for a visa in the company of both parents or the person exercising parental authority or guardianship, who will have to present documentation that proves their affiliation. If one of the parents does not appear, the other must present a notarized letter, translated into Spanish and apostilled in which consent is granted for the minor to obtain a visa and travel to Mexico.


VISA WITH AUTHORIZATION FOR WORKING, APPROVED BY THE INAMI (NUT)

The company / organization that has hired you  must request an authorization before the National Migration Institute (INM) in Mexico. 

Once your stay has been authorized, you will receive a Unique Processing Number (NUT ). Once you have received said NUT or authorization number, you must contact this Consulate in order to make an appointment for your interview and issuance of the corresponding visa.

  • Proof of your legal status in the U.S. (this only applies for non-U.S. citizens) you can provide the original and copy of your US Visa, entry stamp, ESTA (Electronic System Travel Authorization) or resident card. Plus a copy
  • Copy of NUT authorization letter
  • Payment in cash 54 USD

 

 TEMPORARY RESIDENT VISA 

THROUGH FINANCIAL SOLVENCY

  • Valid passport in original and photocopy of the pages that contain information such as photography, validity dates of the passport, as well as visas from other countries in force.
  • Proof of your legal status in the U.S. (this only applies for non-U.S. citizens) you can provide the original and copy of your US Visa, entry stamp, ESTA (Electronic System Travel Authorization) or resident card
  • One passport size photo (1.5 x 1.3 / 4 inches), in color, without glasses.
  • Financial Solvency :
    • Investment and or bank accounts with a monthly ending balance of at least 5,000 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City (minimum wage is $279.00). To prove this, you need to provide:
  1. The printouts of your electronic bank statements certified (signed and/ or stamped) by the bank , of each of the previous 12 months, OR
  2. The printouts of your electronic bank statements PLUS a letter from your financial institution indicating your full name (no omissions), the details about your account, and the ending balance of each of the previous 12 months. The letter must be signed by hand.
  • Payment of consular fees for the issuance of visa  in cash, 54 usd 

 NOTE:

If your temporary resident visa is approved, you must take it to the INAMI offices in order to get your residence card, you must deliver it to the INAMI office in Mexico within the next 30 calendar days after the date of entry in Mexico.

If you have direct economic dependents (spouse, parents or children) you must prove the family bond with a marriage license and or birth certificate and prove financial solvency by adding 100 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City per dependent to the required monthly amount under number 5.

 TEMPORARY RESIDENT VISA 

THROUGH REAL STATE

  • Proof of your legal status in the U.S. (this only applies for non-U.S. citizens) you can provide the original and copy of your US Visa, entry stamp, ESTA (Electronic System Travel Authorization) or resident card
  • One passport size photo (1.5 x 1.3 / 4 inches), in color, without glasses.
  • Real State in Mexico. Original Public Deed/Title signed before a mexican Notary Public original and copy proving  that the applicant is the owner of real estate property in Mexico with a value exceeding 40,000 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City (minimum wage is $279.00)
  • Payment of consular fees for the issuance of visa  in cash, 54 usd 

 TEMPORARY RESIDENT VISA 

THROUGH MARRIAGE TO A MEXICAN CITIZEN

    • Valid passport in original and photocopy of the pages that contain information such as photography, validity dates of the passport, as well as visas from other countries in force.
    • One passport size photo (1.5 x 1.3 / 4 inches), in color, without glasses.
    • Marriage certificate in original and copy. 
    • Prove Mexican Nationality of the mexican spouse with one of the following in original and copy of: Mexican Passport valid and unexpired or  Mexican Birth Certificate 
    • Mexican Spouse valid official identification in original and copy. 
    • The applicant’s mexican spouse must be present the day of the consular interview.  

 

  • Name on the passports and marriage license must all coincide
  •  Payment of consular fees for the issuance of visa  in cash, 54 usd 

 

TEMPORARY RESIDENT STUDENT VISA

  • Valid passport in original and photocopy of the pages that contain information such as photography, validity dates of the passport, as well as visas from other countries in force.
  • Proof of your legal status in the U.S. (this only applies for non-U.S. citizens) you can provide the original and copy of your US Visa, entry stamp, ESTA (Electronic System Travel Authorization) or resident card
  • One passport size photo (1.5 x 1.3 / 4 inches), in color, without glasses.
  • An original, dated and signed letter of acceptance from the school in Mexico that you intend to attend. This letter must be signed by hand, on school’s letter head. Electronic signatures, copies or scanned copies will not be accepted. The letter must contain the following information. a) Applicant’s full name (as in passport) and nationality b) Name of major, class and/or degree in which you have been admitted. c) Name of course or academic activity in which the applicant has been accepted d) Estimated length and/or exact date of class conclusion. e) Tuition amount to be paid for the entire program. f) School contact information: complete name and address, phone and fax numbers, email address, registration number etc. 
  • Financial Solvency, you must be able to prove that you have the means to support your stay in Mexico. a) Proof of investments or bank accounts with a monthly ending balance of at least 1,000 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City(minimum wage is $279.00). To prove this, you need to provide: I. The certified (signed and/or stamped) bank statements of the previous 3 months or II. The printouts of your electronic statements plus a letter from your financial institution indicating your full name (no omissions), the details about your account and the balance of the previous 3 months. The letter must be signed by hand (no electronic signatures or photocopies of the original will be accepted). • If your name on the bank statements is not exactly as in your passport you will also need to bring the letter from the bank as described above (II)


Financial solvency also can be proved with an Original letter from your employer stating your employment commencement date, position title, the salary you receive and you will also provide the paystubs for the last 3 months. The letter must include your full name as it appears in your passport and must be signed by hand (no electronic signatures or photocopies of the original will be accepted). 

If you will receive a scholarship, Financial solvency also can be proved with Scholarship or financing: Original letter from the institution that provides the scholarship or financing. The letter must include your full name as it appears in your passport, the amount you will receive and must it be signed by hand (no electronic signatures or photocopies of the original will be accepted).

 

 

  • Payment of the rights for the visa in cash.

 

PERMANENT RESIDENT VISA

 Requirements:

 

    • Valid passport in original and photocopy of the pages that contain information such as photography, validity dates of the passport, as well as visas from other countries in force.
    • Proof of your legal status in the U.S. (this only applies for non-U.S. citizens) you can provide the original and copy of your US Visa, entry stamp, ESTA (Electronic System Travel Authorization) or resident card
    • One passport size photo (1.5 x 1.3 / 4 inches), in color, without glasses.

 

  • Financial solvency:

Investment or bank accounts with a monthly ending balance of at least 20,000 days of the current general minimum wage in Mexico City (minimum wage is $279.00). To prove this, you need to provide: The printouts of your electronic bank statements certified (signed and/or stamped) by the bank, of each of the previous 12 months.

  • Proof that you are a retiree. Annual Social Security Earnings Report in the US and a photocopy of it or the most recent letter from the Social Security or Pension issuer indicating the monthly amount that you receive. $6,975 USD
  • Payment of  the fee in cash, 54 USD.

 

NOTE:

  • If your permanent resident visa is approved, you must take it to the INAMI offices in order to get your residence card, you must deliver it to the INAMI office in Mexico within the next 30 calendar days after the date of your entry to Mexico.
