Visa for Temporary Resident Students

This visa is for your if:

• You have been accepted into an educational institution in Mexico
• If you will be studying for at least 181 days and up to 4 years (if studying for less than 180 days refer to the section for visa for visitors without authorization for lucrative activities)

REQUIREMENTS:

• Fill out the Application form, English or Spanish.
• Valid passport and one photocopy of the pages containing personal information, bearer’s photograph and signature and expiration date/extensions.
• Valid US visa for multiple entries and one photocopy (non US citizens only).
• Valid I-94 and for the cases where it applies, valid signed I-20 or J-1 or I-797A or I-512L forms in original and one photocopy (non US citizens only).
• One recent passport size photo (size 1.5 x 1.3/4 inches), in color, white background, no glasses, no smiling.
• Original letter of acceptance from the School or University.  The letter should be recent and state:
  • Applicant’s full name, date of birth and passport number.
  • Level and area of study to which the applicant has been accepted.
  • The name of the course or program to which the applicant has been accepted.
  • The semesters or academic years of study to which the applicant has been accepted and the date to which the applicant is expected to finish the course or program.
  • Date of the beginning of the course and deadlines for enrollment and registration.
  • Tuition and fees.
  • University’s information, including name, address, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and names of the admissions office responsible personnel.

• Economic solvency:
  • Original financial records such as: Last twelve months of bank statements (checking, savings or investments) in US Dollars with an average monthly balance of at least 99,000.00USD*, or last six months of employment or pension pay stubs with a monthly balance of at least $780.00USD* after taxes, or official prove of scholarships or financial aid with a monthly balance of at least $780.00USD*

• If sponsored by parents or legal guardian (only for students under 25 years old):

a.    Original Notarized Letter from parents stating that they will be sending their son or daughter the amount of, at least $780.00.00 US dollars per month, besides tuition (Affidavit of support), the signature on the letter must match that of the parents ID.
b.    ID copy of parents (valid signed passports) and Applicant’s birth certificate with apostille (original and copy)
c.    Proof of parents’ economic solvency, such as: Last twelve months of bank statements (checking, savings or investments) in US Dollars with an average monthly balance of at least 99,000.00USD*, or last six months of employment or pension pay stubs with a monthly balance of at least $780.00USD* after taxes.

• Payment of Consular fee of $53.00USD in cash, debit or credit card, no personal checks accepted.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

I.    To apply, minors (under 18 years old) must be accompanied by both parents (or legal guardian) and  submit original birth certificate and one photocopy or original legal documents of proof of guardianship and one photocopy. If only one of the parents is present at the time of application there must be an original notarized authorization from the absent parent with a copy of both sides of their valid official ID, or original custody documents and one copy of them.
II.    All documents issued outside of Mexico considered public records, such as birth, marriage, death certificates, court documents or school records/degrees must bear the seal of the apostille issued by the corresponding authority.
*Amounts may change depending on the official Mexican minimum wage and the daily exchange rate

Once it is processed the applicant will be contacted with appointment information for an in-person interview.

Filing an application does not guarantee the issuance of a visa. All cases must be reviewed by a consular official, who will determine the approval of the visa issuance.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT:
Some cases are required to have an additional review and approval from the Mexican Immigration Authority. Unfortunately, the Consulate cannot do anything to expedite this procedure.
