II INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON CODICES OF THE PAST AND PRESENT
PAINTED BOOKS AND SACRED SKINS
The II International Congress on Codices of the Past and Present: Painted Books and Sacred Skins will bring together scholars, artists, community representatives, and students to explore the study and contemporary creation of Mesoamerican codices.
The program will include keynote lectures, thematic symposia, training workshops, cultural activities, and a curated exhibition.
This congress is supported by the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation of the Government of Mexico, through the project CIEVENTOS-2025-210.
CALENDAR 2025
- Open call: From the date of publication.
- Call for proposals closes: October 20.
- Notification of acceptance: November 10.
- Final Program: November 21.
- Congress: December 1 to 5.
PARTICIPATION MODALITIES
The congress will be an in-person event with live broadcasts.
Priority will be given to proposals for presentations co-authored by a scholar with an established academic track record and a scholar in the early stages of their career.
- ORAL ACADEMIC PRESENTATION
- Requirements: Abstract (maximum 400 words) and brief curriculum vitae (max. 150 words).
- Presentation time: Will depend on the number of participants in each panel.
- Thematic Axes:
- Territoriality (Central Mexico, Oaxaca, Gulf Coast, Northern Mexico, and the Maya Region).
- Temporality (Pre-Hispanic, Colonial, and Contemporary periods).
- Materiality and Historical/Archaeological Contexts.
- Rematriation, Digital Repatriation, and Other Forms of Memory Recovery.
- MULTIMODAL PRESENTATION: NEW PERSPECTIVES
- Formats: Printed formats, digital media, documentaries, app-based tools, workshops, and artistic proposals such as performances, graphic, visual, sonic, immersive, and/or digital works.
- Requirements: Summary (maximum 400 words), link to audiovisual examples, title, author(s), and institutional affiliation.
SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS AND LANGUAGES
Proposals must be submitted via the form:
ACCEPTED LANGUAGES: Spanish, English, and indigenous languages, depending on thematic relevance.
