Permanent Resident visa by Economic Solvency: retirement, rentier, investor
British nationals and other foreign nationals who plan a permanent stay in Mexico, without the purpose to perform lucrative activities or to receive remuneration in Mexico, living off their own financial means, they are required to apply for a Permanent Resident Visa by economic solvency.
This is visa suitable for transfer of personnel from the United Kingdom to Mexico who are going to receive their salary form the UK, pensioner or rentier.
The visa issued at the Consular Office is a single-entry visa, valid up to 180 days and will allow his/her holder to enter Mexico to exchange it for a Temporary Resident Card within 30 days upon his/her arrival in Mexico at the nearest migration office (INM). The Temporary Resident Card will be valid for one year and multiple entries.

Requirements:
I. Valid passport and photocopy of the pages where the personal details and holder's photograph are found.
II. Visa application. it is recommended to fill in the application in Microsoft Word.
III. One UK size passport photograph (it must be in colour, with the face clearly visible without glasses, white background and be taken within the last month).
IV. Proof of being a temporary resident in the United Kingdom, only in cases when the foreign national is not a British national, in this case a photocopy of the British visa or residence permit is required.
V.- Submit documentation to prove your economic solvency:
a) Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with average monthly balance equivalent to twenty thousand days of the general minimum wage in force in Mexico City (check here the amount), during the last twelve months, OR
b) Original and copy of the documents that prove that you have stable employment or pension with monthly income free of taxes greater than the equivalent of five hundred days of the general minimum wage in force in Mexico City (check here the amount), during the last six months.
Remarks:
With respect section a), it is required to submit certified bank statements.
Regarding section b), as applicable it is required: 1.- original headed letter from the company where the applicant works, stating his/her salary, that he/she is not going to receive any salary from a Mexican company or institution and that he/she will stay in Mexico for more than 6 months, or original letter from the institution that grants the pension to the applicant 2.-, the last six-month pay slips or pension receipts and the banks statements where the income is deposited monthly.
VI. Payment of consular fee (Visa) via bank transfer to the Mexican Consulate on the day of the appointment in order to receive and to process the application, in accordance with the Federal Act of Fees. It also covers the issuance of the visa, if the visa is authorised.
In the case of visa refusal, the payment made will not be reimbursed. It is suggested that before submitting your application, check that your documentation is complete.
Processing time: From two up to 10 working days after handing in the aforementioned documentation, in a complete and satisfactory manner.
It is advisable not to book or buy flight tickets to Mexico if you have not been notified about the authorisation of the issuance of your visa.
The submission of flight ticket is not a visa requirement, so it does not accelerate the processing time of a visa.
Notes:
1. -In order to obtain the Permanent Resident Card, the applicant must apply before the National Institute of Migration and pay the migratory fees in Mexican pesos.
2. - When a foreign national has been invited by a Mexican company/Institution to perform lucrative activities (work permit), the Mexican company/institution must request the work permit at the National Migration Institute in Mexico: https://www.gob.mx/inm
3.- Documents issued outside Mexico or the UK for visa application acceptance must be apostilled (legalised if the State where the document issued is not party to the Hague Convention on Apostille).
Visa delivery:
Visas can be collected at the Consular Section, or
By mail, under responsibility of the applicant. It is necessary to hand in an envelope "Special Delivery", containing name, address and postal code.
