No. 010

The Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento, celebrate the award given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Institute of Mexicans Abroad, to Christian Rodriguez, a resident of Woodland, California, for his documentary "AMEXICA".

The contest "Cutting Borders" was organized to commemorate along with our compatriots residing abroad the Bicentennial of Independence and the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution.

Mexicans living in 15 countries participated in this contest: Germany, Brazil, Canada, China, Chile, Denmark, Spain, United States, France, Hungary, India, Japan, United Kingdom, Sweden and Switzerland.

The videos presented exposed with creativity, different aspects of the complexity of migration. The films highlighted the challenges faced by migrants in their living and employment conditions, yet they show the great contributions that migrants make to their host societies.

Christian was born in Los Angeles, CA. on April 1st, 1982. His mother, Aurora Campos, is originally from Jocotepec, Jalisco.

The last couple of years Christian has been dedicated to document stories of immigration issues in California, spending most of his time listening to stories and experiences of migrant workers. Inspired by the strength, courage, perseverance, and fighting spirit of the people who have come to this country in search of better opportunities, he decided to use his cell phone to film a reality that he perceives as admirable and dignified. "AMEXICA" is a short documentary-style film, in which working women narrate their experiences as braceras.

In the words of Christian, family, culture, and work are the most important things in his life. This competition represented a very educational and rewarding experience for him: "I am very happy to be part of this". For the Consulate General of Mexico, this award is also a matter of great pride. We share his satisfaction for this well deserved recognition to his work.

Congratulations Christian!
