The Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento is pleased to announce the celebration of the traditional Grito de Independencia ceremony by the Consul General, Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, next September 15th at 8pm, on the west steps of the State Capitol.
The Grito Ceremony is a representation of the moment when the priest of the town of Dolores, Guanajuato, Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, rings the bell calling local people to rise in arms against the colonial authority of New Spain, and to join the War of Independence that begins right at that instant and ends up eleven years later in 1821.
This is the celebration that has the greatest historical significance and it is certainly the one with the highest traditionalist value.
The fact that in this year we are celebrating 200 years of the start of the Independence of our country, gives it an even deeper meaning. Besides, for the first time at Sacramento Valley, we will use a replica of the Campana de Dolores to highlight the traditional "Grito de Independencia", a privilege that honors us all.
Join us to celebrate this special date. ¡Viva la Independencia! ¡Viva México!
