Visa applications require a consular interview. Issuance of a Mexican visa does not guarantee admission into Mexico. Immigration authorities determine admission at the point of entry.

The monetary amounts below reproduce the previous consular information and must be verified before publication as current requirements.

1. Passport, in original and copy.
2. A photograph with a visible face and without glasses, in color, passport size, with white background facing forward.
3. Original and copy of the document proving your legal stay, if the foreign person is not a national of the country where the visa application is submitted.
4. One (1) typed letter addressed to the Consulate requesting the type of residency in Mexico, indicating the city or town where the applicant plans to live, address in Mexico and travel date. The letter must state that the applicant is aware that, as a holder of this type of visa, they are not allowed to work in Mexico.
5. Documents proving eligibility under one of the following categories.

Applicants must submit one of the following:

Option 1 — Investments or Bank Accounts

Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with a monthly balance of:

$73,215.00 USD

During the last twelve (12) months.

OR

Option 2 — Employment or Pension

Original and copy of documents proving employment or pension with monthly income free of liens greater than:

$4,393.00 USD

During the last six (6) months.

1. Invitation Letter

Original of the responsive letter from an organization or public or private institution inviting the foreign applicant to participate in an unpaid activity in Mexico.

The letter must contain:

1. Full name and nationality of the applicant.
2. Name or corporate name of the organization.
3. Official registration number, as applicable.
4. Purpose of the private or public organization or institution.
5. Full address and contact details of the organization or institution.
6. Information about the activity to be carried out or the project in which the foreign applicant will participate. The activity must be related to the purposes of the inviting organization or institution.
7. Estimated duration or approximate completion date of the activity.
8. A statement of joint and several liability for the maintenance of the foreign applicant during the stay in Mexico and their return to their country of origin or residence.
9. Copy of official identification, with signature and photograph, of the person signing the invitation letter.

2. Financial Capacity of the Inviting Institution

To prove sufficient resources to meet the financial responsibilities described above, the private organization or institution must present an original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with an average monthly balance equivalent to:

$73,215.00 USD

During the last twelve (12) months.

Exception: Public institutions and private institutions belonging to the National Education System do not require economic credit under the original requirements.

3. Applicant's Experience and Qualifications

Original and copy of documents proving that the foreign applicant possesses the experience, capacity, skills or knowledge necessary to carry out the activity for which they have been invited.

4. When the Inviting Institution Does Not Cover Maintenance Expenses

The applicant must present one of the following:

• Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with an average monthly balance equivalent to $73,215.00 USD during the last twelve (12) months; or
• Original and copy of documents proving employment or pension with monthly income free of liens greater than $4,393.00 USD during the last six (6) months.

1. Passport, in original and copy.

3. Original and copy of the document proving legal stay, if the applicant is not a national of the country where the visa application is submitted.
4. One (1) typed letter addressed to the Consulate requesting the type of residency in Mexico, indicating the city or town where the applicant plans to live, address in Mexico and travel date. The letter must state that the applicant is aware that as a holder of this kind of visa they are not allowed to work in Mexico.
5. Documents proving eligibility under one of the following categories.

Option 1 — Investments or Bank Accounts

Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with a monthly balance of:

$292,859.00 USD

During the last twelve (12) months.

OR

Option 2 — Pension Income

Original and copy of documents proving pension income free of liens greater than:

$7,321.00 USD

Per month during the last six (6) months.

The following documentary alternatives are identified in the original requirements:

• If the applicant has a Mexican child: Mexican birth certificate of the child, original and copy.
• If the applicant has a Mexican father or mother, provided the applicant is a child or adolescent without entitlement to Mexican nationality, has not married or remains under legal representation: birth certificate of the applicant, original and copy.
• If the applicant is the child of the Mexican citizen's spouse or recognized partner and meets the applicable age or representation conditions: birth certificate of the applicant, original and copy, together with the marriage certificate or document proving the partnership, original and copy.
• If the applicant is a sibling of a Mexican citizen: birth certificates of the applicant and Mexican sibling, original and copy.

In addition, submit the document proving Mexican nationality, original and copy.

Present the appropriate evidence of the family relationship:

• If the applicant has a foreign child holding a permanent resident visa: birth certificate of the child, original and copy.
• If the applicant has a foreign parent holding a permanent resident visa, and the applicant meets the applicable age, marital status or legal representation conditions: birth certificate of the applicant, original and copy.
• If the applicant is the child of the spouse or recognized partner of a foreign permanent resident visa holder: birth certificate of the applicant, original and copy, and marriage certificate or document proving the partnership, original and copy.
• If the applicant is the sibling of a foreign permanent resident visa holder and meets the applicable age, marital status or legal representation conditions: birth certificates of the applicant and sibling, original and copy.

Immigration Document: Valid permanent resident visa, original and copy.

Economic Solvency for Each Relative:

• Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with a monthly balance equivalent to $4,393.00 USD during the last twelve (12) months; or
• Original and copy of documents proving employment or pension income free of liens greater than $1,464.00 USD per month during the last six (6) months.

Present the evidence corresponding to the family relationship:

• If the applicant has a foreign child with permanent resident status: birth certificate of the child, original and copy.
• If the applicant has a foreign father or mother with permanent resident status, and meets the applicable age, marital status or legal representation conditions: birth certificate of the applicant, original and copy.
• If the applicant is the child of the spouse or recognized partner of a foreign permanent resident: birth certificate of the applicant and marriage certificate or document proving the partnership, original and copy.
• If the applicant is the sibling of a foreign permanent resident and meets the applicable conditions: birth certificates of the applicant and sibling, original and copy.

Additional Document: Valid permanent resident card, original and copy.

5. Documentation proving one of the following circumstances.

A. Property and Economic or Business Ties

1. Original and copy of a public deed for real estate duly registered in the applicant's name for at least two years, together with proof of stable employment for at least two years; or
2. Original and copy of a public deed for real estate duly registered in the applicant's name for at least two years, together with proof of ownership or participation in a business for at least two years.

B. Economic Solvency

1. Original and copy of documents proving employment or pension income free of liens greater than $1,464.00 USD per month during the last three months, together with proof of stable employment for at least one year; or
2. Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with an average monthly balance equivalent to $4,393.00 USD during the last three months; or
3. For foreign students: original proof of studies and proof of stable employment, pension or scholarship with monthly income equivalent to $1,004.00 USD during the last three months.

Visa application fee in the original article: $53.00 USD.

2. A photograph with a visible face and without glasses, in color, passport size, with white background facing forward.
3. Original and copy of the adoption or assignment document issued by the National System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF), indicating the identity of the child or adolescent.
4. Original and copy of the acceptance of the child's assignment and continuation of the adoption procedure, issued by the Central Authority of the Receiving State, expressing its willingness and that of the applicants to continue the procedure.
5. One typed letter addressed to the Consulate requesting the type of residency, indicating the intended city or town, address in Mexico and travel date, and acknowledging the work restriction stated in the original requirements.
6. Payment of the visa application fee indicated in the original article: $51.00 USD.

5. Documents proving the following study-related requirements.

Original letter of acceptance from an institution belonging to the National Educational System in Mexico, specifying:

1. Full name of the applicant.
2. Level, grade and area of study that the applicant intends to pursue.
3. Name of the course or program in which the applicant has been accepted.
4. Course start and end dates.
5. Tuition cost and identifying information about the educational institution.

Evidence of resources sufficient to cover tuition, accommodation and maintenance expenses during the stay in Mexico, through one of the following:

Option 1 — Employment, Pension or Scholarship

Original and copy of documents proving employment, pension or scholarship with monthly income free of taxes greater than:

$1,464.00 USD

During the last three (3) months.

Alternatively, the amount necessary to cover the corresponding tuition, accommodation and maintenance expenses under the original requirements.

OR

Option 2 — Investments or Bank Accounts

Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with a monthly balance equivalent to:

$14,643.00 USD

During the last three (3) months.

Alternatively, the amount necessary to cover the corresponding expenses under the original requirements.

According to the original requirements, financial solvency may be demonstrated by:

• The applicant.
• The applicant's parents.
• A person exercising parental authority or guardianship, provided that the applicant is not older than twenty-five years.
• A letter from the educational institution confirming that the applicant is a scholarship beneficiary.
• Documentation from a bank or financial institution confirming financing.

Immigration Document: Valid temporary residence visa or temporary resident student visa, original and copy.

Economic Solvency for Each Family Member:

• Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with a monthly balance greater than $1,464.00 USD during the last twelve (12) months; or
• Original and copy of documents proving employment or pension with monthly income free of liens greater than $1,464.00 USD during the last six (6) months.

Additional Letter: One typed letter addressed to the Consulate requesting the type of residency, indicating the city or town, address in Mexico and travel date, and acknowledging the work restriction indicated in the original article.

1. Marriage certificate or document proving the partnership, original and copy.
2. Valid permanent resident visa, original and copy.
3. Economic solvency for the maintenance of the spouse or partner, using one of the alternatives below.
4. One typed letter addressed to the Consulate indicating the requested residence category, intended city or town, address and travel date, together with the acknowledgment of the work restriction stated in the original text.

Economic Solvency:

• Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with an average monthly balance greater than $1,464.00 USD per person during the last twelve (12) months; or
• Original and copy of documents proving employment or pension with monthly income free of liens greater than $1,464.00 USD per person during the last six (6) months.

The documentation depends on the family relationship:

• If the applicant is the spouse or recognized partner: marriage certificate or document proving the partnership, original and copy.
• If the applicant has a foreign child with temporary resident or temporary resident student status: birth certificate of the child, original and copy.
• If the applicant has a foreign parent with temporary resident or temporary resident student status, provided the applicant meets the applicable conditions regarding age, marriage or legal representation: birth certificate of the applicant, original and copy.

Immigration Document: Valid temporary resident card or temporary resident student card, original and copy.

For Family Members of Temporary Resident Students: Letter or proof issued by the educational institution confirming that the foreign resident continues their studies.

Additional Letter: One typed letter addressed to the Consulate identifying the requested residency category, intended city or town, address in Mexico and travel date, together with the acknowledgment of the work restriction stated in the original text.

1. Deed or instrument issued before a Notary Public demonstrating that the foreign applicant participates in the capital stock of a Mexican legal entity and that the investment made for such participation exceeds $104,000.00 USD.

   The investment may be demonstrated through:

   • Contract for the sale of shares or partnership interests.
   • Contract for the transfer of goods or rights in favor of the Mexican legal entity.
   • Document issued by the Mexican legal entity proving the amount contributed to its capital stock.

   Original and copy are required under the original article.

2. Document proving ownership of movable property or fixed assets used for economic or business purposes, with a value exceeding $204,000.00 USD, original and copy; or
3. Documentation demonstrating the development of economic or business activities in Mexico, such as:
   • Contracts.
   • Service orders.
   • Invoices.
   • Receipts.
   • Business plans.
   • Licenses or permits.
   • Proof issued by the Mexican Social Security Institute establishing that the legal entity employs at least three workers.

4. Payment of $53.00 USD for the visa application, as stated in the original consular information.
5. One (1) typed letter addressed to the Consulate requesting the type of residency in Mexico, indicating the city or town where the applicant intends to live, address in Mexico and travel date. The letter must state that the applicant is aware of the restriction on working in Mexico as described in the original article.

Participation in a Mexican legal entity: more than $104,000.00 USD.

Qualifying business assets: more than $204,000.00 USD.

30 Working Days

From the day following notification to the promoter of authorization to proceed with the consular interview, according to the original requirements.

The original article refers to Mexican immigration rules effective from January 25, 2014, concerning minors traveling alone or accompanied by a third party.

It states that certain minors traveling for non-paid activities, such as tourism or short-term study visits of less than 180 days, are treated differently under the applicable departure authorization rules.

Depending on nationality, immigration status and the circumstances of travel, additional documents or parental authorization may be required.

Where applicable, a parent or legal guardian may need to arrange the corresponding authorization through a notarized document or the National Migration Institute's Formato de Salida de Menores (SAM).
