“Hoy ha quedado instalado es esta ciudad el Consulado de los E. U. Mexicanos. Correspondiendo su jurisdicción a los condados de Los Angeles, San Bernardino y San Diego. Lo que hago saber a los ciudadanos Mexicanos residentes en estos lugares para que sean registrados en el libro de matrículas.

Primera noticia pública de la apertura del Consulado de México en San Diego, aparecida en la edición dominical del 26 de octubre de 1879 del diario San Diego Union. Se insta a los ciudadanos mexicanos a registrarse en el libro de matrículas.

“Today the Consulate of the United Mexican States has been established in this city. Its jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Los Angeles, San Bernardino and San Diego. I make this known to the Mexican citizens residing in these places so they can be included in the consular register book.
