The Government of Mexico is closely monitoring
the maritime incident that occurred at Point Loma, San Diego, providing consular assistance and support
to the victims.
Regarding the incident that occurred on the morning of May 2 near Point Loma, in which 30 people were injured and at least 3 lost their lives, the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego reports that as part of its actions of consular assistance, its staff has been able to interview most of the people affected and will soon complete these interviews.
From the information collected so far, it has been detected that the majority of the survivors are Mexican nationals.
Those injured are receiving all necessary medical assistance. One person is reported as being in serious condition. They will all be transferred to the custody of immigration authorities as soon as their health stabilizes. The ages of those involved in the incident range between 18 and 40 years of age. Of the 33 people affected, 25 are men and 8 are women. The Consulate General is in the process of confirming whether two of the persons are minors.
The Consulate is in direct contact with the victims and will assist them in their return to Mexico once their processes conclude, giving priority to people who, due to their health condition, present a higher state of vulnerability.
As for the deceased, the Consulate General is in communication with the Coroner’s Office to follow up on the process of identifying the bodies and, if applicable, provide the corresponding support to their families.
