COLIBRÍ MX SCHOLARSHIPS 2022

⦁ Last year, the ColibríMX Scholarships Program benefited 84 students.

The Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego and the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty of San Diego County, Inc. (MAAC) announce that the application period for ColibríMX scholarships has opened. The deadline to apply is July 17, 2022.

ColibríMX Scholarships aims to support first-time college students enrolling in the fall 2022 semester with a GPA of 2.5 or higher, who can demonstrate Mexican or Latino origin, financial need and residence in San Diego County. $1,000.00 dollar grants will be available for residents in San Diego for the fall 2022 school cycle. In an effort to further assist those who are in economic need, DACA applicants or beneficiaries will be eligible to win an additional $500.00 dollars in the 2022 edition of the program. Additionally $5,000.00 dollar needs-based scholarship will be awarded to one student. For more information on eligibility requirements and to apply visit www.MAACproject.org/ColibriMX.

Last year, the ColibríMX Scholarship Program benefited 84 students, 69% of them were first-generation college students and 81% were pursuing a four year university degree.

The colibrí, or hummingbird, transcends borders as it makes its annual migration from Central America and Mexico into the United States of America. It symbolizes hope, perseverance and personal strength the same principles that immigrant families possess as they seek greater economic mobility in a new land.

“We believe in the power of education as the best tool for social mobility,” said Carlos González Gutiérrez, Consul General of Mexico in San Diego. “Our hope is that ColibríMX serves young Mexican American and Latino students who are first-generation college students in the County, underpinning their dream of being accepted in a community college or university”.

MAAC CEO Arnulfo Manriquez has stated, “Now, more than ever, we want to support and encourage a new generation of leaders in their goal of a higher education. They will be the beacons of hope, strength, and perseverance we need to enact change in our communities, our region, and across the world. We are thrilled to offer these scholarships in partnership with the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego.”

Community members are encouraged to participate in the fundraising efforts. For information on how to donate, please visit www.MAACproject.org/ColibriMX.
