PRESS RELEASE

SONORA IS SHOWCASED AT THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF MEXICO IN SAN DIEGO

As part of the tourism promotion project Puente a México (Bridge to Mexico), on Saturday, March 4, the state of Sonora, with its stunning natural landscapes, beaches, and famous architecture, will be presented at the Consulate General of Mexico.

Puente a México represents an open invitation to all the states of Mexico to take advantage of the facilities of the Consulate General, located in Little Italy's neighbourhood, as an ideal platform to promote each month, during a weekend, its art, culture, gastronomy, services, and tourism destinations.

With allies and key partners such as Cross Border Xpress (CBX) and the Mexican airline Volaris, Puente a México will allow San Diegans to discover Sonora as an outstanding destination, through a photographic exhibition, samples of regional food and tastings of typical drinks.

San Diego, with the exclusive CBX pedestrian bridge that connects with 39 destinations in Mexico, is considered the first gateway to California, one of the most attractive tourist markets worldwide.

Next Saturday, March 4, the Consul General of Mexico, Carlos González Gutiérrez, and the Secretary of Tourism of Sonora, Célida Teresa López Cárdenas, will inaugurate at 10:00 a.m. the Puente a México Sonora, with free admission, in which hundreds of passers-by will be able to appreciate handcrafts, photographs, and regional clothing, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

"Considering our mission to build bridges between the two countries of this binational region, we believe this Puente a México will allow more Californians to discover the world-class landscapes, culture, and tourist destinations of Sonora, including Puerto Peñasco – with a new air route from Tijuana – and beaches such as San Carlos, Kino Bay, and Huatabampo," said the Consul General of Mexico.

In addition, on March 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sonora will have a space in the famous Farmers' Market of Little Italy in San Diego to provide information on the main tourist destinations offered by the state and the main events for 2023.

"We are very excited to introduce our state to the Southern California market. The purpose is to detonate the trips and show the great variety of recreational and tourism activities such as diving, fishing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, hunting tourism, and ecological tourism, "said the Secretary of Tourism, Célida Teresa López Cárdenas.

Jorge Goytortúa, CEO of Cross Border Xpress, said: "For CBX, continuing to participate in this type of effort is significant because our cross-border bridge is the gateway to Mexico. By 2023, CBX will connect more than 4.7 million users heading to 39 destinations in Mexico from San Diego, California, and vice versa. We are very honored to welcome Sonora to our region."

Puente a México was officially inaugurated on June 25, 2022; since then, Baja California, Yucatan, and Nayarit have participated with exhibitions of their own.
