CONSULATE GENERAL OF MEXICO PRESENTS CASA MÉXICO DURING COMIC-CON From July 20-23, the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego will present - for the second year in a row - Casa México during Comic-Con to celebrate and showcase some of the most iconic and emblematic features of Mexican pop culture through presentations, exhibitions, live music, and a taste of our world-renowned gastronomy. Located in the popular Seaport Village area of San Diego Bay, Casa México’s 2023 theme will be “Rius” (Eduardo Humberto del Río García, 1934-2017), considered one of the most influential cartoonists in Mexico, with some of his popular comic strip characters. The exhibit is made up with material from the Museo del Estanquillo in Mexico City, which contains the collection of Mexican writer and intellectual Carlos Monsiváis. “With a brand-new hospitality suite in Seaport Village, Casa México during Comic-Con represents a great opportunity to show a positive image of our country, presenting the work of ‘Rius’ and the states of Nayarit and Baja California, with their breathtaking tourism destinations”, explained Carlos González Gutiérrez, Consul General of Mexico. The international San Diego Comic-Con, to take place from July 20- 23, 2023, is focused on comics as a popular element of the entertainment industry and pop culture, encompassing comic strips, iconic characters, movies, television shows and video games. It offers public presentations, conferences and exhibitions both at the San Diego Convention Center & Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park. Casa México during Comic-Com will include live music performances, ranging from contemporary to traditional genres, including a mariachi band, the Ballet Folclórico de Nayarit Ti-Pai, the YI-MA ballet, the OMEGA orchestra, singers from the San Diego Opera and Circomedy, a fusion of circus elements with comedy, among many others.
