ALICIA KERBER-PALMA BEGINS HER DUTIES AS THE NEW CONSUL GENERAL OF MEXICO IN SAN DIEGO

Ambassador Alicia G. Kerber Palma officially began her duties as Consul General of Mexico in San Diego, California, on February 26, 2024.

She holds a law degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana, completed her master's studies, and received a PhD in International Law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM, for its acronym in Spanish).

She joined the Mexican Foreign Service in 1991 and reached the rank of Ambassador in 2022. During her professional career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, she served as Consul General of Mexico in Houston from June 2019 to June 2023.

Previously, Amb. Kerber served as Head of Political Affairs at the Embassy of Mexico in Colombia; Consul of Mexico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and as Representative of Mexico to the Organization of American States (OAS).

She also served as Chargé d'Affaires at the Mexican Embassy in Ireland, Consul of Mexico in Philadelphia, and Consul of Mexico in Kansas City, where she designed and executed the Ventanilla de Atención Integral a la Mujer (VAIM), aimed at providing specialized services to migrant women. The successful results of this program allowed the Ventanilla to be institutionalized in the 53 Mexican consulates in the United States and some Mexican embassies around the world, strengthening the objectives of the Feminist Foreign Policy. Ambassador Kerber promotes inclusion, diversity, and the rights of women and the LGBTQ+ community.

In the academic area, she has taught International Law at various universities. She has authored articles and essays published in specialized legal journals in Mexico and other countries on topics related to international organizations, human rights, gender perspectives, and international security, among others.

"Considering that Mexico adopted a feminist foreign policy, all programs and services offered by the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego will aim to place women at the center of decisions, promoting their independence, autonomy, and empowerment," said Consul General Alicia Kerber.

She succeeds Amb. Carlos González Gutiérrez, who was appointed as Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles, California.
