
IME-SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM RESOURCES CEREMONY
SCHOOL YEAR 2013-2014
San Diego, CA.- On Tuesday October 22nd, in the facilities of the Consulate-General of Mexico in San Diego, took place the ceremony of delivery of resources of the IME Becas for the cycle school program 2013-2014.
The IME-grants program is an initiative that provides support for educational programs for adults and for students of Mexican origin. The ceremony was headed by the Consul General of Mexico in San Diego, Remedios Gómez Arnau.
The IME-scholarship program offers support to the community and provides literacy; primary and secondary courses; GED (general education development); training in computing and teaching English as a second language ESL (English as a second language) for adults (over 15 years). This program offers scholarships for Mexican students, as well as, training courses for work.
The ¨IME Becas¨ grants program, was created in 2005 in order to contribute to raise educational levels of Mexican students and people of Mexican origin, living in the United States.
Since then, the Government of Mexico grants annually 10 million pesos to non-profit organizations or Institutions that provide educational programs and training in higher education to Mexican immigrants interested in start, or continue or finish their studies.
For this school cycle 2013-2014, four educational Institutions will benefit: San Diego County Library, Community ACCESS Centre, Southwestern Community College and Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District.
From its creation until the 2012-2013 academic year, the grants given in the United States have been of approximately $5,200,000.00
US dollars, benefiting around 34,000 students.
