VI EDITION OF “ THE LABOR RIGHTS WEEK”
AT THE COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO
San Diego.- August 25th, 2014. "We all have rights at work" will be the topic of the sixth edition of the “Labor Rights Week”, which will take place from August 25th to September 1st, in various locations within the county.
This edition of the “Labor Rights Week” will have a special focus on strengthening the outreach and communication with all Mexicans that are entering their work life or already working, especially the young "dreamers" benefited by the deferred action policy (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), those benefited with a U or T visa, and temporary workers. For the first time, simultaneous activities will be taking place in some of the foreign delegations of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Consulates (SRE).
For those participating in the activities around this week, they will be able to obtain responses to questions, such as:
- ¿Which are my rights if I already have a working permit?¿Are these the same as the ones that an American employee?
- ¿What can I do if they are making me work extra hours without payment, or if there is a wrongful termination?
- ¿What to do in case of being a victim of discrimination or harassment? Who do I need to contact?
- ¿What is social security and how do I benefit from it?
As part of this week’s program, from August 25th to September 2nd, 3 informative fairs will be held at the Consulate, in which relevant information on various programs of support and guidance in the workplace will be provided, and public consultations will be addressed.

Across the county counseling from lawyers and five informational workshops will be given by representatives of government agencies, community organizations and advocates for the rights of immigrants and DACA beneficiaries, among others to know more about local and federal labor laws.
The “Labor Rights Week” is an initiative organized around Labor Day in The United States of America, which aims to raise awareness and inform the migrant community about their fundamental rights, and the actions they should take if they are victims of the violation of their labor rights.
