During the inauguration ceremony, the Consul General of    Mexico in San Diego, Remedios Gómez Arnau, announced the program of activities that will take place in several cities throughout the County, during the month of October, on the occasion of the XV edition of the           "Binational Health Week"

 

Several events will take place in various locations in the County: San Diego, San Ysidro, Chula Vista, National City, El Cajon, Lemon Grove, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista, Escondido and Tijuana, Baja California, with the participation of more than 80 health agencies. It aims to achieve coverage of more than 20,000 people in the region San Diego-Tijuana.

 

This year, the Binational Health Week slogan is: "15 Years Working for Your Health”

 

On the occasion of the inauguration, Dr. Wilma Wooten, Officer of Public Health of the Agency of Health and Human Services of the County of San Diego (HHSA) and the Assemblywoman, Lorena González, attended the ceremony. Also, representatives of the Congressman Juan Vargas; the California State Senator, Ben Hueso; the San Diego County Supervisor, Greg Cox; as well as from the office of the Mayor of the City of San Diego, Kevin Faulconer.

 

The active participation of sponsors, organizations of the working group of the Binational Health Week and the public in general, gave the various celebrations a remarkable enhancement, supporting the promotion of 60 events organized in the region San Diego-Tijuana.

The Consul General awarded the sponsors who are supporting this program, as well as the participants in the “National Olympic Games” organized by the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME).

As part of the program of activities of the SBS 2015, there will be Informative Fairsat the Consulate facilities, with health services, such as tests for glucose, blood pressure and the application of vaccines free of charge.

For this edition, some health issues will receive special attention: Access to Health Services, Chronic diseases; Infectious diseases, Occupational Health and Violence based on a public health approach.

The SBS originated in 2001 as a result of the working efforts on the initiative of health Mexico-California (ISMECAL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME); the Ministry of Health; The Department of Health of the State of California and various public institutions and private agencies, from Mexico and the United States.
