Power of Attorney
REQUIREMENTS:
1. - THE PERSON WHO IS GOING TO GRANT THE POWER OF ATTORNEY (PRINCIPAL) MUST APPEAR PERSONALLY.
2. - VALID PHOTO ID AND A COPY We only accept the following IDs: passport, consular ID card, Mexican Voter’s Card issued by the IFE, driver’s license issued by the DMV and Identification Card issued by the DMV. If the principal is a Mexican national, their full legal name [first, middle, last name (from father), and last name (from mother)] must appear on their ID. If the principal is not a Mexican national, the document will be issued with the name as it appears on the ID.
3. - COMPLETE THE APPLICATION.
4. - IF THE PRINCIPAL INTENDS TO GRANT A POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR OWNERSHIP OR MANAGEMENT ACTS and is married under a joint estate regime, they must also provide their marriage certificate, original and copy, and their spouse’s valid photo ID and a copy. If the spouse is a Mexican national, their full legal name [first, middle, last name (from father), and last name (from mother)] must appear on their ID. If the spouse is not a Mexican national, the document will be issued with the name as it appears on the ID. Both spouses must sign the Power of Attorney. If the principal intends to grant a Power of Attorney for Ownership or Management Acts and the marriage was celebrated under a separate estate regime, it is only required the marriage certificate, original and copy.
5. - IF THE PRINCIPAL IS NOT COMPLETELY FLUENT IN SPANISH, they must be accompanied by an interpreter (it needs to be the same interpreter during the complete process of obtaining the Power of Attorney). The same applies to their spouse if they are signing the Power of Attorney. The interpreter must also provide a valid photo ID and a copy.
FEE:
$115.00 dollars.
(Cash only. 100 dollars bills or higher denomination are not accepted).
PROCEDURE:
1. -The principal must appear personally and drop off their application from Monday thru Friday 8:00 to 10:00 hrs. You do not have to make an appointment for that.
2. -The same day you turn in the application, you will be given an appointment to check a Power of Attorney’s rough draft and to pay the Power of Attorney. (If you do not show up for this appointment, your document will be cancelled automatically and you must start all over again).
3. - Two working days after you checked the rough draft, you must show up to sign the Power of Attorney and to pick it up.
- In extraordinary cases, the Consulate may ask you to provide more documents to complement your application.
- All of the photocopies that you present must be clear in order to read.
