Department of Cultural Affairs

Through a regional and binational strategic vision, the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego has developed a comprehensive and planned cultural agenda to harness the richness of the many cultural actors in a highly active binational region in this field. Emphasis is placed on a broad, cross‑sectoral, and multidisciplinary approach that reflects the diverse artistic and cultural expressions of Mexico, a country with enormous cultural, artistic, and historical wealth, with global impact and recognition. Consulados de México

Under this vision, we have succeeded in consolidating and expanding the network of cultural and artistic institutions on both sides of the border with which we work closely on a permanent and periodic basis, making them key partners in promoting Mexican culture, the arts, and Mexico’s image—the main objective of our efforts in this area. Consulados de México

Among the institutions with which we have a close working relationship and collaboration on projects in the region are the San Diego Museum of Art, Mingei International Museum, San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, The New Children’s Museum, Digital Gym Cinema, UCSD Park & Market, The Old Globe Theater, Fondo de Cultura Económica, San Diego Public Library, Coronado Public Library, Naxos, Centro Cultural Tijuana, Secretaría de Arte y Cultura, Comic‑Con Museum, Culinary Art School Tijuana, and Museo Interactivo El Trompo, among others. Following a strategic and multidisciplinary agenda that reflects the richness, variety, and complexity of Mexican culture, activities are carried out in literature, the promotion of reading, performing arts, visual arts, cinema, music, as well as in academic fields such as history and anthropology.
