REQUIREMENTS (For people 18 years of age or older)

1. Prove your identity with one of the following identifications, in original and with a name that matches your birth certificate

The photograph must fully match the current physical features The documents must be submitted in original, in good condition, not entitled, without erasures or amendments

3. Present in original, a proof of address that is in your name. This receipt must indicate all the data of the address where it resides, that is, street number and name, interior number, city and postal code. |

What happens if I don't have any proof of address in my name?
You can ask someone you know to send you a letter through the mail to your home address and present the letter as proof of address.
What happens if my spouse's last name appears on my ID?
If your spouse's last name appears on your proof of identity, you must present the original of the marriage certificate, and extracts are not accepted.
In the same way, if you want your spouse's surname to appear in your consular registration, you must present the original of the marriage certificate, extracts are not accepted.
It is recalled that the consular registration records the name or names, first and second surnames of the applicant. The spouse's surname is included in a special section of the registration.
Where can I obtain the forms for the consular registration and authorization for minors?
You no longer have to fill out either of these two forms by hand. It is up to the Consular Office staff to fill out these forms with the information found in your documents and that you provide. You will only have to read them carefully when they are given to you for review and signature.
VALIDITY
All consular identifications are valid for five years from the day of their issuance.
DELIVERY TIME
Once you come to your appointment at the Consular Office and meet all the requirements, the consular identification is delivered the same day of your appointment.
What happens if when I receive my consular identification, I detect that there is an error in the data?
Before the consular registration is sent to print, the system returns proof of data that the Consular Office staff must give you for your review. If you detect an error on the same day of the issuance of your document, the registration can be corrected. If you spot the error later, you will have to make the payment again.

RENOVATION
For the renewal or exchange of consular identification, the interested party must meet the following requirements:
- Go in person to the Consulate General, with a previously scheduled appointment by calling or sending a message via WhatsApp to the number +1 (424) 309-0009 or online at https://citas.sre.gob.mx/.
- Present the last consular registration issued to renew
- Present proof of address if the person has changed their place of residence and the address that appears on their consular registration to be renewed is no longer where they live.

What if I can't find my previous consular license plate or it was stolen?
In these cases, you must bring all the documentation as the first time, and fill out a form that will be provided to you at the Consulate where you will record the circumstances that gave rise to the loss of your consular identification.

REQUIREMENTS (For CHILDREN under 18 years old)
A minor is understood to be the person who has not yet reached the age of eighteen.
For the issuance of consular identification to minors, parents or those exercising parental authority or guardianship must:
- Appear in person in the company of the minor before the corresponding Consular Office with a previously scheduled appointment, which can be obtained through the telephone service +1 (424) 309-0009 or online at https://citas.sre.gob.mx/
- Prove the identity of the minor, presenting the ORIGINAL of one of the following documents, it is important to mention that the features of the minor must match those of the photograph that is presented:
- Valid or expired Mexican passport.
- Certificate of elementary, middle or high school education issued by a Mexican authority and that has a photograph and security measures.
- Student ID accompanied by official transcript
- Proof of studies of the degree being studied duly stamped by the educational institution and with a photograph of the minor.
- Official identification issued by a valid authority of the United States of America.
- Valid or expired U.S. Residence Card. In the case of minors with dual nationality,
- Valid U.S. passport.
- Trusted traveler cards like Global Entry and Sentri
- For children under 7 years of age, a certificate with a photograph and stamp from a medical institution or a private doctor in the place where the minor lives.
- Grant the consent of both parents or guardians by signing the authorization form that will be provided at the Consular Office.
- Present valid official identification, with a photograph and signature of both parents and where the names recorded on the identifications coincide, without exception, faithfully with the name that appears on the birth certificate of the minor. In case the identification has the surname of married, you must present the original marriage certificate (abstracts are not accepted).

IMPORTANT:
If the nationality of the applicant cannot be accredited after consulting the databases or systems to which the Consulate has access, one of the following documents must be presented to process a passport, consular registration and INE
- Birth certificate issued by the Mexican civil registry office or consular office
- Declaration of Mexican nationality by birth
- Naturalization Letter
- Marriage certificate
What if a parent is not in town and is unable to sign the authorization form?
If both or one of the parents cannot appear in person to carry out the process of issuing consular identification for their minor child, they must go to the Passport Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Consulate closest to their home and fill out the corresponding form to be sent to the Consular Office where the procedure will be carried out.
If I am the child's parent and I am divorced and have custody of my child, can I take their consular registration without the consent of their parent?
No. The parental authority exercised by the parents over the minor children is not lost by the fact that they live separately or have divorced. Only if a judge establishes the loss of parental authority (sole custody) or gives one of the parents the power to withdraw the registration without the consent of the other parent can the procedure be carried out. In the absence of this ruling, both parents must sign the authorization form.
