Verification of Notarial Power of Attorney (Verificación de Poder Notarial)
To verify the authenticity of a notarial power of attorney issued by this Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego, California, in accordance with the Procedure established in the Guidelines for the Verification of Notarial Acts, it is necessary to send the following documents (in legible PDF format) to the Consulate’s official email: Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. Requests from Notaries Public:
- The request signed by the Head Notary Public, sent from the official email account used by the Notary’s Office;
- Scanned copy of the complete notarial deed (Testimonio) to be verified;
- Scanned copy of the Notary’s license (patente);
- Scanned copy of the official letter addressed to the Head of the consular representation that issued the power of attorney, specifically requesting the verification of the notarial power of attorney. This letter must be prepared on the Notary’s official letterhead and signed by the Head Notary.
Requests submitted by individuals:
- A document written and signed by the person who granted the notarial act and/or by the recipient of the act (grantor and attorney-in-fact in the case of powers of attorney). In this document, the grantor or recipient must clearly state that they give their consent to a third party (full name) or to an institution (full name) to contact the respective Consulate or Embassy by email on their behalf to request the verification.
- Clear and simple copy of the official photo ID with signature of the person who granted the notarial act and/or of the recipient of the act (depending on who is submitting the request).
- Clear and simple copy of the photo ID with signature of the applicant (person or institution) who is making the request on behalf of the grantor or recipient of the notarial act. (This can be a voter ID card, passport, etc.), in order to verify the signature on the institution’s letter.
- Simple copy of the complete notarial deed (Testimonio) to be verified.
- Letter on the institution’s official letterhead, signed by the representative with a handwritten signature that matches the ID sent, requesting the verification (if applicable).

CERTIFICATE UPON REQUEST OF THE INTERESTED PARTY (Certificado a Petición de Parte)
The Certificate upon Request of the Interested Party is the consular document issued at the request of the interested person, in order to attest to a fact or prove a right. It has legal validity and full faith and credit before any Mexican authority.
With this Certificate “it is only proven that statements or declarations were made before this Consulate General and are recorded in the document, but it does not prove the truth of what was declared or stated. The certificate records the identity and nationality of the applicant and the documents presented by the interested party to prove their right or fact; however, it does not prove the truth of what was declared or manifested.” (Art. 202 of the Federal Code of Civil Procedures).

CERTIFICATE OF DOCUMENT VERIFICATION (COTEJO)
The legal act of "cotejar" consists of confronting or comparing one document with another (for example: Mexican birth certificate, Mexican passport, consular registration card, or other official documents), attesting that it is a true and faithful copy of the original, which the consular officer has examined in person.
Only Mexican documents are eligible for a Certificate of Document Verification (Cotejo).
