VISITOR VISA

Eligibility: |
A citizen of a foreign country who wishes to travel to Mexico for tourism, visit friends or relatives, or medical treatment, for a period of up to 180 days. |

Consular offices of Mexico. |
Fees: |
That provided for in Article 22 of the Federal Law of Rights, except in cases where there is an agreement or unilateral declaration for a fee visa waiver. The consular offices will collect the fees in the currency of the country authorized by Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público. |

Gather Required Documentation
Gather and prepare the following required documents before your visa interview:
- Visa application form.
- One Passport size photo, in color, white background, no glasses, taken within the previous 6 months to the application (either 1.5 x 1.75 in or 2 x 2 in are accepted).
- Valid and unexpired passport in original and one photocopy of every page that contains personal information, visas or entry stamps
- Proof of address in the USA (leasing, bills with magnetic band issued by US Postal Service, etc)
- Original and one copy of proof of legal residency in the US (Not applicable for US nationals). Could be proven with any of the following (must be valid and unexpired):
- I-94, I-797 Notice of Action, I-20 properly endorsed, DS-2019, Advanced Parole.
- Proof of economic solvency.
- Original and copy of investments or bank statements with an average monthly balance equivalent to at least three hundred days of the minimum wage salary of Mexico City during the previous three months to the date of the application, or
- Original and copy of pay stubs or documents proving that the applicant has received a salary or pension with an average monthly equivalent to one hundred days of the minimum wage salary of Mexico City, during the last three months, or
- In the case of foreigners who study regularly in higher education institutions, they must present an original proof of studies and an original proof of employment, pension or scholarship with monthly income equivalent to sixty days of the general minimum wage for Mexico City, during the last three months. It is needed to present a verification letter from the employer or the pension institution that states the applicant has been employed or has received benefits during the entire year prior to the application.
Effective January 1, 2024, the daily minimum wage rate of Mexico City is MXN $248.93 (Peso to Dollar exchange varies on daily basis).
Payment of Consular fee ($54.00 USD). Consider that if your visa is denied, the payment is not refundable.
TEMPORARY RESIDENT (More than 180 days but less than 4 years)
Overview
This status allows applicants who have a secured income to live as a temporary resident in Mexico. Under this category, applicants may NOT work in Mexico nor engage in any profitable activity.

IMPORTANT - The visa is valid for six months and for one entry only.
The Mexican migratory authorities have the faculty to grant or deny the final entry into Mexico.
At the port of entry you must obtain an FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple), please fill in this form choosing the option “CANJE”. The immigration officer will stamp your FMM upon arrival. PLEASE KEEP your FMM IN A SAFE PLACE.
After entering into Mexico, you have 30 days to go to the nearest Immigration office (INM) with your passport, visa and your FMM in order to process your resident card.

PERMANENT RESIDENT VISA

This status allows applicants who can prove that are already retired and have secured income to live as a permanent resident in Mexico. Under this category, applicants may NOT work in Mexico nor engage in a profitable activity.

Requirements:
- Application form.
- One Passport size photo, in color, white background, no glasses, taken within the previous 6 months to the application (either 1.5 x 1.75 in or 2 x 2 in are accepted).
- Valid and unexpired passport in original and one photocopy of every page that contains personal information, visas or entry stamps.
- Original and one copy of proof of legal residency in the US (Not applicable for US nationals). Could be proven with any of the following (must be valid and unexpired):
- I-94, I-797 Notice of Action, I-20 properly endorsed, DS-2019, Advanced Parole.
- Present documents that prove any of the following assumptions:
- Retirees or pensioners:
- Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with an average monthly balance equivalent to twenty thousand days of the minimum wage salary imposed to Mexico City, during the last twelve months, or
- Original and copy of the documents that demonstrate that you have a pension with monthly income free of taxes greater than the equivalent of five hundred days of the minimum wage salary imposed in Mexico City, during the last six months.
- Family unit:
- Link with Mexican:
- If the applicant has a Mexican child, Mexican birth certificate of the Mexican child, original and copy; or
If the applicant has a Mexican father or mother, as long as they are a girl, boy or adolescent and do not have the right to Mexican nationality and have not married or are in a state of prohibition and are under their legal representation, birth certificate of the applicant, original and copy; or
If the applicant is the child of the spouse, common-law wife or common-law partner of a Mexican, as long as they are a girl, boy or adolescent and have not married or are in a state of interdiction and are under their legal representation:
- Birth certificate of the applicant, original and copy; and
- Marriage certificate or document that certifies concubinage or equivalent, in accordance with the applicable legislation of the country where the legal act was celebrated, in original and copy; or
If the applicant is the brother of a Mexican, birth certificate of the applicant and his brother, original and copy; and
ii . Proof document of Mexican nationality, in accordance with article 3 of the Nationality Law, in original and copy.
- Link with a foreigner holding a permanent resident visa:
- If the applicant has a foreign child who holds a permanent resident visa, the child's birth certificate, original and copy; or
If the applicant has a foreign father or mother who holds a permanent resident visa, as long as they are a girl, boy or adolescent and have not married or are in a state of prohibition and are under their legal representation, the applicant's birth certificate, in original and copy; or
If the applicant is the child of the spouse, common-law wife, common-law partner of a foreigner holding a permanent resident visa:
- Birth certificate of the applicant, original and copy; and
- Marriage certificate or document that certifies cohabitation, with the foreign person holding a permanent resident visa, in accordance with the applicable legislation of the country where the legal act was celebrated, in original and copy; or
If the applicant is the brother of a foreigner who holds a permanent resident visa, as long as he or she is a girl, boy or adolescent and has not married or is in a state of prohibition and is under his or her legal representation, he or she must present the applicant's birth certificate. and his brother, in original and copy;
ii . Permanent resident visa, valid and current in original and copy, and
iii . Prove financial solvency for the support of each of your family members during your stay in the country, with:
- Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with an average monthly balance equivalent to one hundred days of the minimum wage salary imposed in Mexico City, during the last twelve months, or
- Original and copy of the documents that demonstrate that you have employment or pension with monthly income free of taxes greater than the equivalent of one hundred days of the minimum wage salary imposed in Mexico City, during the last six months.
- Link with a foreigner who has the status of permanent resident:
- If the applicant has a foreign child with the status of permanent resident, the child's birth certificate, original and copy; or
If the applicant has a foreign father or mother with the status of permanent resident, as long as they are a girl, boy or adolescent and have not married or are in a state of prohibition and are under their legal representation, birth certificate of the applicant , in original and copy; or
If the applicant is the child of the spouse, common-law wife of a foreigner with the status of permanent resident:
- Birth certificate of the applicant, original and copy; and
- Marriage certificate or document that certifies concubinage with the foreign person with the condition of permanent resident, in accordance with the applicable legislation of the country where the legal act was celebrated, in original and copy; or
If the applicant is the brother of a foreigner who has the status of permanent resident, as long as they are a girl, boy or adolescent and have not married or are in a state of interdiction and are under their legal representation, they must present a certificate birth date of the applicant and his brother, in original and copy, and
ii . Permanent resident card, valid and current in original and copy.
- Points system:
- The requirements established for this purpose in the corresponding agreement that will be published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación.
- Payment of fees for the issuance of visa in accordance with the provisions of the Ley Federal de Derechos.
