Consul General of Mexico in Toronto Amb. Porfirio Thierry Muñoz Ledo held a work meeting with Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne at the offices of the Legislative Assembly on January 30. The objective of the meeting was to strengthen the friendly ties and trade relations between the province and our country.
At the meeting they reviewed the state of cooperative relations between Mexico and Ontario and explored innovative approaches for the development of new projects. They also evaluated the advances made in the bilateral promotion programs since President Enrique Peña Nieto’s state visit to Toronto on June 27, 2016 and Premier Wynne’s mission to Mexico City and Guadalajara from August 30 to September 2, 2016
The Consul General explained Mexico's current position on foreign policy announced by the Mexican President on January 23, 2017, highlighting the two priorities in foreign policy and the objectives of negotiation in the current geopolitical context, as well as the constructive role that Canada plays as Mexico’s partner in economic, financial, cultural, scientific and technical cooperation.
Premier Wynne emphasized the importance of free trade and regional economic integration to growth and prosperity, and it was agreed that, overall, Mexico and Canada hold first place in trade with the vast majority of US states, and that our contribution to the economic development of the United States was highly significant.
