Regulations for sport fishing activities in Mexico: be aware

July 23 2015

Sport fishing activities in Mexican waters are welcome, provided that the necessary documents and permits required by the Mexican Government are processed in advance.  Avoid inconveniences and sanctions by finding out where to apply for such permits, and what are the catch limits in force, among other important aspects.

On May 2015, the Mexican Government launched a website where the necessary electronic links and information are available, both in English and in Spanish, to facilitate access to the various permits related to these activities.

The Consulate General of Mexico in Vancouver is pleased to inform that a multiagency effort by Mexican authorities has enabled most foreign nautical tourists to comply with Mexican legal requirements in an accessible and easy way.

Lack of compliance with Mexican regulations will result in sanctions ranging from detention and immediate deportation of crew and passengers, to confiscation of vessels.

Mexican Navy and Immigration authorities will be strengthening their presence in Mexican waters in order to enforce such regulations and to ensure that conditions are in place so that those that are in compliance enjoy a safe holiday in Mexican waters.
