Or if:

  • Regardless of your nationality, if you have a valid visa or Permanent Resident Card issued by Canada, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom or any country in the Schengen area.
  • If you want to visit Mexico as a tourist, in transit, for business, for technical activities, as a journalist or as a student;
  • If the period of your visit is less than 180 days, and if
  • You will not receive any salary in Mexico

People who cannot enter Mexico

  • The immigration authority can deny the entry of the visitor if he is subject to criminal proceedings or if he has been sentenced for a crime.
  • As in all countries, the Mexican immigration authority will verify the authenticity of the documents presented and the veracity of the information provided. It will also confirm that there are no other types of restrictions.
  • The Consulate cannot verify or guarantee your entry into Mexico.
  • It is the exclusive prerogative of the immigration authority to admit or reject entry to any visitor.

Documents needed to enter Mexico

  1. A valid passport or travel document. It is not necessary for the passport to have a minimum validity (for example, 6 months), however, it must be a valid document during the entire time of your stay.
  2. The Multiple Migration Form (FMM), duly filled out. This form will be given to you by your airline or when you go to the immigration agent. You can also fill it out online at: https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/en/solicitud.html Keep this form and do not lose it. You will be asked to hand it in at the time of your departure.
  3. The immigration officer at the port of entry may ask you for additional documentation, depending on the purpose of your journey.
    • Tourism: Hotel reservations, return plane tickets.
    • Business: Letter in Spanish from the foreign company indicating that you are an employee of it and that you will not receive any salary from a Mexican company.
    • Technicians: Copy of the technology transfer contract, patents and trademarks, purchase of machinery and equipment, technical training of personnel and any other document related to the production process of a company established in Mexico.
    • Students: Letter of invitation or acceptance from an institution belonging to the Mexican national education system, to take courses, conduct research or receive academic training for a maximum of 180 days.

If you present documentation issued by a country other than the United States of America or Mexico; These documents must have the proper Apostille or Legalization as appropriate; as well as with its official translation into the Spanish language.

Requirements:

  1. Schedule an appointment per person (https://citas.sre.gob.mx/)
  2. Visa application form printed on a single page on both sides duly completed and signed (click here to download).
  3. Valid passport in original and photocopy.
  4. Original and copy of the document that proves your legal stay in the United States (I-797, I-20, “advance parole”, etc.) Only applies if the applicant is not a US national.
  5. A 3.9 cm photograph. X 3.1 cm., with the face uncovered and without glasses, front, in color and with a white background.
  6. Payment of rights $54.00 USD (Non-refundable if not approved).
  • Proof of economic solvency, in original and photocopy, which may be:
    • Personal investment account statements or personal bank account with a minimum balance of approximately $71,572.74 USD during the last 12 months (bring the last 12 account statements), or
    • Documents showing that the applicant has a pension or salary with a minimum payment of approximately $ 4,294.36 USD free of taxes during the last 6 months (bring the last 6 pay stubs accompanied by the last 6 bank statements where the direct deposit is reflected salary/pension)

If you cannot obtain the original documents from your bank, you can submit copies or printouts as long as they are stamped and signed by a notary (front of each account statement).

The visa is valid for one entry. Once in Mexico, the foreigner has 30 calendar days to process with the National Institute of Migration the residence card that certifies his legal stay and allows him to stay in Mexico for a period greater than 180 days.

  • Copy of the "Visa authorization document for consular interview permit" issued by the National Institute of Migration (INM) where the Unique Procedure Number (NUT) is indicated.
  • Payment of immigration rights $295.00 dollars. It only applies to permits granted under the category "Visitor with permission to carry out paid activities" when the occupation requires a temporary stay of no more than 180 days.

The visa is valid for one entry. Once in Mexico, the foreigner has 30 calendar days to process with the National Migration Institute the residence card that certifies his legal stay and allows him to stay in Mexico for a period greater than 180 days.

  • Original and photocopy of the acceptance letter from the educational institution where you intend to study. The letter must include:
    • Student's full name
    • Level, degree and area of ​​study to be carried out
    • Name of the course to which you have been accepted
    • Start and end date of the course
    • Tuition cost
    • Data of the educational institution
  • Proof of economic solvency, in original and photocopy, which may be:
    • Personal bank account statements or personal investment account with a monthly average minimum balance of approximately $14,314.55 USD during the last 3 months (bring the last 3 account statements), or
    • Original and copy of payroll or pension receipt that shows minimum monthly income of approximately $1,431.45 USD free of taxes during the last 3 months (bring the last 3 months of payroll/pension receipts accompanied by the last 3 statements of account where the direct deposit).

Economic solvency may be accredited by the interested party, by their parents or by whoever exercises parental authority or guardianship, as long as they are not older than 25 years, or by means of an original letter from the institution that proves that they have benefited from a scholarship, or document from a banking or financial institution that proves that the applicant has the financing

The visa is valid for one entry. Once in Mexico, the foreigner has 30 calendar days to process with the National Institute of Migration the residence card that certifies his legal stay and allows him to stay in Mexico for a period greater than 180 days.

  1. Retirees or pensioners
    • Proof of economic solvency, in original and photocopy, which may be:
      • Personal investment account statements or personal bank account with a minimum balance of approximately $286,290.97 USD during the last 12 months (bring the last 12 account statements), or
      • Documents showing that the applicant has a pension with a minimum payment of approximately $7,157.27 USD free of taxes during the last 6 months (bring the last 6 payroll stubs accompanied by the last 6 bank statements where the direct deposit is reflected of pension)

If you cannot obtain the original documents from your bank, you can submit copies or printouts as long as they are stamped and signed by a notary (front of each account statement).

The visa is valid for one entry. Once in Mexico, the foreigner has 30 calendar days to process with the National Migration Institute the residence card that certifies their legal stay and allows them to stay in Mexico for a period greater than 180 days.

Present the documents that prove any of the following assumptions:

  • Economic solvency:
    • Original and copy of statements of personal bank accounts or personal investment accounts with a monthly average minimum balance of approximately  $4,294.36 USD during the last 3 months (bring the last 3 account statements), or
    • Original and copy of payroll or pension receipts showing a minimum monthly income of approximately $1,451.49 USD free of taxes during the last 3 months, accompanied by the original proof of stable employment for at least one year. (Bring the last 3 months of payroll/pension receipts accompanied by the last 3 bank statements where the direct deposit of the salary/pension is reflected).
    • In the case of foreigners who study regularly in higher education institutions, they must present an original proof of studies and an original proof of stable employment, pension or scholarship with monthly income equivalent to approximately $700 USD during the last three months.

If you cannot obtain the original documents from your bank, you can submit copies or printouts as long as they are stamped and signed by a notary (front of each account statement).

Foreigners over 65 years of age will not be required to prove economic solvency, as long as they prove that the purpose of the trip is to carry out tourism activities.

  • By Invitation Letter:
    • Original of the letter from an organization or a public or private institution that invites the foreign person to participate in some unpaid activity in national territory. The letter must contain the following information:
      • Full name of the applicant or interested party and nationality;
      • Name or business name of the organization;
      • Registration number and purpose of the organization or private institution;
      • Full address and contact details of the organization or institution;
      • Information about the activity to be carried out or the project in which the foreign person will participate (the activity of the foreign person must be related to the purposes of the inviting organization or institution);
      • Estimated duration or approximate date of completion of the activity to be carried out;
      • Where applicable, the commitment to provide support for the foreigner during his/her stay in Mexico and to ensure that the foreigner returns to his/her country of origin or residence and a copy of the official identification with signature of the person signing the letter of invitation.
      • The documents with which the foreign person proves that he/she has the experience, capacity, skills or knowledge necessary to develop the activity for which he/she is invited, in original and photocopy.
    • In order to prove that the inviting private organization or institution has the resources to meet the maintenance obligation of the foreign person, it must submit: Original and copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with an average monthly balance equivalent to $143,227.85 USD, during the last twelve months.

Public institutions and private institutions belonging to the National Educational System do not require proof of economic solvency.

  • Student (stay less than 180 days):
    • Original and copy of the letter of acceptance from an institution belonging to the National Educational System to take courses, studies or research projects or academic or professional training for a period of less than 180 days, specifying:
      • Full name of the interested party;
      • Level, degree and area of ​​study that the applicant intends to carry out;
      • Name of the course in which he has been accepted;
      • Start and end date of the course;
      • Cost of student fees for the course, and
      • Identification data of the educational institution.
    • Economic solvency to cover the amount of school fees and room and board during the applicant’s stay in Mexico, proven by:
      • Original and copy of personal bank account statements or personal investment account with a monthly average minimum balance of approximately $14,314.55 USD during the last 3 months (bring the last 3 account statements), or
      • Original and copy of payroll or pension receipt that shows minimum monthly income of approximately $1,431.45 USD free of taxes during the last 3 months (bring the last 3 months of payroll/pension receipts accompanied by the last 3 account statements where the direct deposit).

Originals, if printed from an online banking account, must bear the seal of the institution on each page, and preferably a signature from a bank representative in order to render them authentic. Shall the bank not have a physical location or may it be closed due to the sanitary contingency, a notary’s certification rendering them a True Copy may also serve as an original.

  • The immigration authority may determine its rejection of the request for admission to the country, in case of being subject to criminal proceedings or having been convicted of a serious crime.
