Documents needed to enter Mexico

  1. A valid passport or travel document. It is not necessary for the passport to have a minimum validity (for example, 6 months), however, it must be a valid document during the entire time of your stay.
  2. The Multiple Migration Form (FMM), duly filled out. This form will be given to you by your airline or when you go to the immigration agent. You can also fill it out online at: https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/en/solicitud.html Keep this form and do not lose it. You will be asked to hand it in at the time of your departure.
  3. The immigration officer at the port of entry may ask you for additional documentation, depending on the purpose of your journey.
    • Tourism: Hotel reservations, return plane tickets.
    • Business: Letter in Spanish from the foreign company indicating that you are an employee of it and that you will not receive any salary from a Mexican company.
    • Technicians: Copy of the technology transfer contract, patents and trademarks, purchase of machinery and equipment, technical training of personnel and any other document related to the production process of a company established in Mexico.
    • Students: Letter of invitation or acceptance from an institution belonging to the Mexican national education system, to take courses, conduct research or receive academic training for a maximum of 180 days.

If you present documentation issued by a country other than the United States of America or Mexico; These documents must have the proper Apostille or Legalization as appropriate; as well as with its official translation into the Spanish language.

Requirements:

  1. Schedule an appointment per person (https://citas.sre.gob.mx/)
  2. Visa application form printed on a single page on both sides duly completed and signed (click here to download).
  3. Valid passport in original and photocopy.
  4. Original and copy of the document that proves your legal stay in the United States (I-797, I-20, “advance parole”, etc.) Only applies if the applicant is not a US national.
  5. A 3.9 cm photograph. X 3.1 cm., with the face uncovered and without glasses, front, in color and with a white background.
  6. Payment of rights $54.00 USD (Non-refundable if not approved).

Temporary resident

If you cannot obtain the original documents from your bank, you can submit copies or printouts as long as they are stamped and signed by a notary (front of each account statement).

The visa is valid for one entry. Once in Mexico, the foreigner has 30 calendar days to process with the National Institute of Migration the residence card that certifies his legal stay and allows him to stay in Mexico for a period greater than 180 days.

Temporary Resident Job Offer

The visa is valid for one entry. Once in Mexico, the foreigner has 30 calendar days to process with the National Migration Institute the residence card that certifies his legal stay and allows him to stay in Mexico for a period greater than 180 days.

Temporary Resident Student

Economic solvency may be accredited by the interested party, by their parents or by whoever exercises parental authority or guardianship, as long as they are not older than 25 years, or by means of an original letter from the institution that proves that they have benefited from a scholarship, or document from a banking or financial institution that proves that the applicant has the financing

Permanent resident

  1. Retirees or pensioners
    • Proof of economic solvency, in original and photocopy, which may be:
      • Personal investment account statements or personal bank account with a minimum balance of approximately $286,290.97 USD during the last 12 months (bring the last 12 account statements), or
      • Documents showing that the applicant has a pension with a minimum payment of approximately $7,157.27 USD free of taxes during the last 6 months (bring the last 6 payroll stubs accompanied by the last 6 bank statements where the direct deposit is reflected of pension)

Visitor with non paid activities

Present the documents that prove any of the following assumptions:

Foreigners over 65 years of age will not be required to prove economic solvency, as long as they prove that the purpose of the trip is to carry out tourism activities.

Public institutions and private institutions belonging to the National Educational System do not require proof of economic solvency.

Originals, if printed from an online banking account, must bear the seal of the institution on each page, and preferably a signature from a bank representative in order to render them authentic. Shall the bank not have a physical location or may it be closed due to the sanitary contingency, a notary’s certification rendering them a True Copy may also serve as an original.

If you present documentation issued by a country other than the United States of America or Mexico; These documents must have the proper Apostille or Legalization as appropriate; as well as with its official translation into the Spanish language.
