Consulate of Mexico in New York is grateful for the donation of Food Bazaar to Project Paz

 New York, N.Y., Wednesday, November 16th, 2017

The Consulate General of Mexico in New York is grateful for the generous donation from Food Bazaar to the non-profit organization Project Paz of $35,000 (thirty five thousand dollars) to help the victims of the earthquakes that affected the south and center of the country in September of this year.

The two earthquakes that struck Mexico caused serious damage mainly in Chiapas, Oaxaca, Morelos, State of Mexico, Puebla, Guerrero, Tlaxcala, Veracruz and Mexico City. After a State of Emergency was declared, the General Board for Risk Management (Dirección General para la Gestión de Riesgos) activated the disaster assistance plan for the recovery and the humanitarian relief of more than 1 million 200 thousand victims of the recent earthquakes and cyclones.

According to preliminary reports from the National Coordination of Civil Protection (Coordinación Nacional de Protección Civil) and the Ministry of Land and Urban Agrarian Development (Secretaría de Desarrollo Agrario Territorial y Urbano) the earthquakes left 369 fatalities and millions in property damage. It is estimated that about 180 thousand homes showed some type of detriment; being Oaxaca (63,355 properties) and Chiapas (58,366 properties) the states most devastated.

The contingency actions of the federal agencies and parastatal offices, as well as the state’s relief efforts, did not wait. The gestures of solidarity from around the world played a decisive role in strengthening the capacity of response of the Federal Government in face of the natural disasters.

Today I want to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to Food Bazaar who is giving a valuable donation of $35,000 dollars to Project Paz to help the victims of the September earthquakes. These solidarity reiterates that only working together we can overcome challenges like the one our country is facing today. "

Food Bazaar is a supermarket chain that carries out philanthropic initiatives in benefit of the most vulnerable communities. They have raised funds for Haiti, Nepal, Ecuador and other countries that have suffered natural disasters.

Cesar Cruz from the Marketing Department of Food Bazaar said that among their principles stand to give back to the community they receive so much from, thus supporting noble causes and local non-profit organizations.

Project Paz is a group of multicultural professionals in various industries including fashion, art, design, media, marketing, finance, law and NGOs. Since its establishment in 2010, Project Paz members dedicate their time to the organization on a volunteer basis. The group partners with artists, designers and socially-conscious brands to host unique fundraising events in NYC and make collaborations that promote their mission.

Project Paz is accepting donations for the victims of the two earthquakes that hit Mexico on September, they´re working with various organizations in Mexico, including Fondo Unido México, Fundación Comunitaria de Oaxaca and Programa Companeros, through its Red de Coaliciones Comunitarias de Mexico. As a result 100% of donations will go to help victims in Chiapas, Oaxaca, Mexico City, Morelos, Puebla, and Estado de Mexico.
