Mexican government awarded Enrique Norten with "Distinguished Mexican Award"

On September 12, 2018, in the Official Residence of Mexico in New York. the recognition "Distinguished Mexican Award" was officially presented to the outstanding Mexican architect Enrique Norten, in the context of the commemoration of the 208th Anniversary of the Independence of Mexico.

The event was attended by the diplomatic corps accredited in this city, local authorities and distinguished members of the financial, business, cultural and educational sectors.

The ceremony began by reading words from the Mayor of the City of New York, Bill de Blasio, he wrote especially for the occasion, which celebrated the contributions of Mexicans to the economy and culture of New York City.

Amb. Diego Gómez Pickering, Consul General of our country recognized Enrique Norten, who, with his binational work, builds bridges not only physical, but cultural as well, that explore the understanding between Mexico and the United States.

He also gave a message mentioning the Independence of Mexico before the more than eighty distinguished attendees. He explained that the commemoration of the Independence of Mexico is an occasion in which we celebrate the contributions and achievements in all areas of all Mexicans.

On this occasion, the Consul General acknowledged in particular a Mexican architect that is recognized worldwide: This is why the Government of Mexico, through the Institute of Mexicans Abroad had decided to award him said recognition.

Mr. Enrique Norten thanked the Consulate for his nomination, and the Government of Mexico for his recognition. He dedicated this award for all Mexicans that work hard in the United States, disregarding immigrations status, as they contribute to the economy of this country, He invited all the guests, that no matter what they specialize in, to build bridges of understanding and collaboration between Mexico and the United States.

Enrique Norten is recognized by buildings such as the National School of Theater and Arts, Hotel Habita, Hotel Americano, Alte de Villahermosa Museum, National Laboratory of Genome of Biodiversity, Museum of Alamo University, Museo de Amparo, Monument for the 150 anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, among others.

The Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME), on behalf of the Government of Mexico, grants this Award to people of Mexican nationality who have lived abroad for more than 5 years, consecutively, and stand out for their extraordinary professional trajectory, peer recognition and their commitment to promote the image of Mexico abroad.

The Award consists of a diploma and a silver medal specially coined by Casa de Moneda, Mexico’s national mint.
