Consul General Gómez Pickering visits the state of Connecticut

 

The Consulate General of Mexico informs that on August 5th, Consul Gómez Pickering, made a visit to the state of Connecticut where he met with the Governor, legislators, local authorities and the Mexican community that lives in the state. According to the US Census of 2010, 52,000 Mexicans live in the state of Connecticut and in 2014, the trade value between Connecticut and our country was $2.23 billion, mainly in chemical manufacturing.

In the meeting with the Governor of Connecticut, Dannel Malloy, the Consul extended an invitation from President Enrique Peña Nieto to visit Mexico and he also highlighted the importance of trade relations with that state; as well as the demographic and economic contribution of Mexicans living there. With the State Representative, Juan Candelaria, they spoke about the importance of access to higher education for the immigrant community.

Also, the Consul held meetings with local authorities, such as the Mayor Joseph P. Ganim of Bridgeport and Mayor Luke Bronin of Hartford. Both highlighted the importance of collaborating to promote the municipal identifications, cooperate to continue bringing the Consulate on Wheels to those cities and provide information about the services they offer.

 

Consul Gómez Pickering visited the community organization Make the Road Connecticut, based in Bridgeport where he spoke with mothers about their main needs and the importance of adult education. He also held a community meeting in Plainville, with the support of the Mexicans Association in Connecticut, where the parties emphasized the importance for young people to continue their higher education and promote the empowerment of dreamers through youth leadership.
