Passport

  • All foreigners, regardless their nationality, are required to present a valid and not expired passport or travel document when entering Mexico (traveling by air, land or sea). It must be valid during the entirety of your trip. 
  • Please contact the airline(s) you will be flying on to ensure that they let you board the plane as the United States does have a six months validity rule for passports that may apply.Visa
  • If you are a Permanent Resident of the following countries: Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, any of the countries of the Schengen Area, and any of the countries members of the “Pacific Alliance”, you do not need a visa to enter Mexico for tourism, business or transit purposes. All individuals in this category are required to present their valid and unexpired Resident Card along with their passports. Both documents must be valid during your entire stay in Mexico. US travel document holders must present a US valid Permanent Resident when entering Mexico if they are nationals of the countries listed in the following link: http://www.inm.gob.mx/gobmx/word/index.php/paises-requieren-visa-para-mexico/
    • If you have a valid and unexpired visa of the following countries: Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and any of the countries of the Schengen Area, you do not need a visa to enter Mexico for tourism, business or transit purposes. All individuals in this category are required to present their valid and unexpired visa along with their passports. Both documents must be valid during your entire stay in Mexico.
  • If the US visa stamped in your passport is expired but you have an official document or form proving your legal status in USA, you must apply for a Mexican visa at this Consulate. 
  • A foreigner of any country traveling to Mexico on leisure trips visiting Mexican maritime ports by cruise, are not required to obtain a visa or consular stamp. The passenger must carry a valid and not expired passport or travel document.

Keep in mind

  • If you are granted with a Mexican visa you will be able to travel to Mexico but it does not guarantee entry into the country. Migration authorities may ask you some questions to confirm the reasons you are travelling, length, of your stay, how are you financing your trip, etc.
  • Consular offices can take up to ten (10) business days to process a visa application. We kindly encourage you to set up your traveling plans once you have your visa issued.
  • The cost of the process is $54 USD CASH. Please note that in case of refusal of visa, the payment is not refundable.

Applicable to foreign individuals intending to enter Mexico under the status of a visitor without permission to perform paid activities, for a period of up to 180 days.

Requirements:

  1. Valid passport or identity and travel document in accordance with international law, in original;
  2. Original document proving legal stay, if the foreign individual is not a national of the country where the visa is requested; and

III. Submission of documents proving one of the following:

  1. a) Ties to the country of origin.
  2. b) Economic solvency.
  3. c) Invitation from a public or private organization or institution.
  4. d) Person who is a driver or operator of cargo transportation intending to enter national territory solely for loading or unloading goods.
  5. e) Humanitarian reasons.
  6. f) Scientific research or sample collection in national territory or jurisdictional waters, with prior authorization from competent national authorities in territorial waters.
  7. g) Studies.
  8. h) Participation in an event sponsored or supported by the Federal Public Administration or autonomous constitutional bodies for a maximum period of 180 days.

Applicable to foreign individuals with significant economic solvency, frequent travelers, prominent individuals, spouses, concubines, or equivalent figures of a Mexican citizen or temporary/permanent resident, family members of temporary/permanent residents, or family members of accredited diplomatic or consular officials in Mexico, as well as supervisors of a foreign company with a subsidiary in national territory or executive personnel of commercial offices or Mexican companies abroad, who wish to enter Mexico under the status of a visitor without permission to perform paid activities and do not intend to reside in national territory.

Requirements:

  1. Valid passport or identity and travel document in accordance with international law, in original;
  2. Original document proving legal stay, if the foreign individual is not a national of the country where the visa is requested; and

III. Submission of documents proving one of the following:

  1. a) Economic solvency.
  2. b) Frequent traveler.
  3. c) Prominent individual.
  4. d) Family member of a Mexican citizen.
  5. e) Family member of a foreign temporary or permanent resident.
  6. f) Family member of an accredited diplomatic or consular official in Mexico holding an ordinary passport.
  7. g) Supervisor of a foreign company with a subsidiary in national territory or executive personnel of commercial offices or Mexican companies abroad.

Requirements:

  1. Valid passport or identity and travel document in accordance with international law, proving a nationality eligible for the Electronic Visa;
  2. Completion of the Electronic Visa application, providing the information required by the migration authority;

III. Digital photograph of the applicant’s face without glasses, with a white background similar to the passport or identity and travel document photo, in .jpg, .jpeg, or .png format, with a size of 2 to 5 MB;

  1. Image of the passport or identity and travel document’s data page in .jpg, .jpeg, or .png format, with a size of 2 to 5 MB, ensuring the image is within the document’s data page parameters and is clearly visible;
  2. Travel to Mexico by air;
  3. Payment of fees in accordance with Article 22 of the Federal Law on Fees.

Applicable to foreign individuals intending to enter Mexico under the status of a visitor for adoption purposes, who are nationals or habitual residents of a country that is a member of the Hague Convention on the Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption or a country with which Mexico has signed an agreement on the matter.

Requirements:

  1. Valid passport or identity and travel document in accordance with international law, in original;
  2. Original adoptability or pre-assignment report issued by the National System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family, indicating information about the identity of the child or adolescent;

III. Original acceptance of the minor’s assignment and continuation of the adoption procedure issued by the Central Authority of the receiving State, expressing their willingness and that of the applicants to proceed with the adoption; and

  1. Payment of fees for the receipt, review of the application, and, if applicable, visa authorization in accordance with the Federal Law on Fees.

Note: Within 30 calendar days from entry into national territory, the foreign individual must obtain the visitor card for adoption purposes from the National Migration Institute.

Applicants must select the required procedure and book an appointment at the Mexican Embassy or Consulate where they will present their application.

Applicable to foreign individuals intending to enter Mexico under the status of temporary resident to stay for a period longer than 180 days but not exceeding 4 years. This visa allows the foreign individual to work in Mexico, provided their salary is paid abroad. If the individual has a job offer in Mexico and will receive a salary in national territory, the employer or individual must first obtain authorization from the National Migration Institute for the issuance of the visa.

Requirements:

  1. Valid passport or identity and travel document in accordance with international law, in original;
  2. Original document proving legal stay, if the foreign individual is not a national of the country where the visa is requested; and

III. Submission of documents proving one of the following:

  1. a) Economic solvency.
  2. b) Scientific research in Mexico’s jurisdictional waters.
  3. c) Invitation from a public or private organization or institution.
  4. d) Under an international legal instrument for the mobility of persons.
  5. e) Family unity.
  6. f) Real estate in national territory.
  7. g) Investor.

Note: Within 30 calendar days from entry into national territory, the foreign individual must obtain the residency card proving legal stay and allowing them to remain in national territory.

Requirements:

  1. Valid passport or identity and travel document in accordance with international law, in original;
  2. Original document proving legal stay, if the foreign individual is not a national of the country where the visa is requested; and

III. Submission of documents proving one of the following:

  1. a) Studies.
  2. b) Under an international legal instrument for the mobility of persons. Economic solvency may be proven by the applicant, their parents, or the person exercising parental authority or guardianship, provided the applicant is not over 25 years old, or with a letter from the educational institution confirming the applicant has received a scholarship, or a document from a banking or financial institution proving financing.

Note: The temporary resident student card proving legal stay and allowing the individual to remain in national territory must be obtained within 30 calendar days from entry into national territory.

Note: The residency card proving legal stay and allowing the individual to remain in national territory must be obtained from the National Migration Institute (INM) within 30 calendar days from entry into national territory.
