I do not speak Portuguese. How do I apply for a Mexican visa?

Before reading this section, please verify whether your nationality requires a Mexican visa or not Exceções do Visto

Holders of a valid US visa: As of May 1, 2010, US visa holders, regardless of nationality, will no longer be required to have Mexican visa when visiting Mexico for tourism, business or transit purposes (either by air, land or sea) for a stay of up to six months. Upon arriving to Mexican territory, a valid passport and a valid US visa must be provided to the Immigration Officers to get stamped the corresponding migratory form (FMM) that will specify the authorized length of stay as well as the approved migratory status. Immigration officers may request additional information such as: main destination, hotel accommodation, return ticket, proof of financial means (international credit cards, debit cards or traveller's cheques).

If traveler/passenger does not have a valid US visa, then must obtain a Mexican visa in order to visit Mexico. Please check out our website under the Solicitação do Visto section the options: Exceções do Visto for visa exemptions and Turistas and Negócios for requirements (Please note that Consular officers are not expected to be familiar with documents issued in every country, so it is extremely necessary to legalize/apostille and translate these documents if they´re not from Brazil: requirements 3 & 4 of Turistas, 3, 5 & 6 of Negócios, as well as legal documents that are derived from civil registration i.e. birth and marriage certificates).

Please be aware that visa applicants must schedule an in-person interview through the online appointment request system (Agendamento Entrevista available in Portuguese only). The process of scheduling an appointment for a consular interview is free of charge. However, the interview does not guarantee that the applicant will be granted a Mexican visa.

Normally, applicants are able to schedule appointments for the following business day. The visa application format (L1) is generated after the applicant selects the date and time in which they wish to schedule the interview. The L1 format is available for printing once the process is completed.

Please read our step-by-step user´s scheduling guide (available in Portuguese only). Ask your contacts/friends/relatives in Sao Paulo for help in making an appointment for the interview. If you do not understand Portuguese, ask them to help you to fill out the online appointment request and to print the visa application format (L1) that you must present at the time of the interview along with the requirements.

Permanent Residents in Canada, Japan, Schengen Area, United Kingdom and the United States of America do not require visa when visiting Mexico for tourism, business or transit purposes (either by air, land or sea) for a stay of up to six months. Upon arriving to Mexican territory, a valid passport and the permanent resident card must be provided to the Immigration Officers to get stamped the corresponding migratory form (FMM) that will specify the authorized length of stay as well as the approved migratory status. Immigration officers may request additional information such as: main destination, hotel accommodation, return ticket, proof of financial means (international credit cards, debit cards or traveller's cheques).

Passengers traveling on tourist cruises to visit Mexican resorts and ports do not need a visa or a special immigration permit, but they are not allowed to enter Mexico beyond the limits agreed with the cruise line without the corresponding visa. The authorization for debarking at the Mexican harbor will be issued according to the conditions established by the Mexican Immigration authorities.
