Permanent and Temporary Residents of Mexico have the right to import their household goods duty-free once, within a period of no more than six months after the date of their formal entrance to Mexico.  Household effects are defined as those items that constitute the furnishings of a house and are exclusively for use, on their daily needs, by a person or family. This includes clothes, bedding, books. All of the items must have been purchased at least 6 months before moving.

Items that CANNOT be included in a Menaje de Casa are vehicles, weapons, ammunition, alcohol, any items considered for commercial activities, chemicals or gases, among others.

Requirements:

  2. Valid passport & copy of passport (scanned copy, legible, not photo) – 4 copies
  3. Copy of visa or residency card (must have been issued within the previous six months) – 4 copies
  4. Household goods inventory – 4 copies
  5. Payment $190

Note:

  • The name of the applicant stated on the application form and inventory must appear as it is stated on the Passport, Mexican Visa or Resident Card
  • For the inventory, please include a detailed description and quantity of the goods. For example:
    • 2x Small boxes of clothes
    • 4x Large boxes of linens
  • For any electronics or appliances, you must include the brand, model and serial number. For example:
    • 1 Gaming Console: Microsoft, Xbox ONE, XQWE123524XXXX
    • 1 TV 42”: Sony, Triton Series, QWEW135432XXXXX
