Visa for unpaid activities: Tourism – Business - Transit - Student less than 180

General Information

• Fill out the application form.
• Valid passport (must be valid for at least 6 months from the day the visa is issued) and one copy.
• If not a US citizen, proof of legal residence (I-131 application for travel document, I-512L application for advance parole, extension of permit, etc.) Original and one copy.
• Submit a color photo, taken in the last 6 months, passport size. Without eyeglasses, with a plain white background. Face the camera directly with full face in view. 
• Proof of Financial Solvency: (one of the following)

Travelers who are 65 or older, will not be required to show proof of financial solvency as long as they prove that the purpose of travel is tourism activities.

1. Investments or bank accounts with monthly average balance for the past three months of ≈ $2,650 usd/month*, original and copy.

1. Proof of employment or pension with a monthly income greater than ≈ $550 usd/month* for the last three months, original and copy of monthly bank statements. Proof of stable employment with a minimum of one year. (Include a letter from the company mentioning your position, when were you hired, and salary per month having a printed signature. Bring pay stubs).

1. In the case of students enrolled in Higher Education Institutions: must submit original proof of studies and original proof of stable employment, pension or scholarship with monthly income equivalent to $325 usd/month *, during the last three months.

Permanent resident visa: Retiree - Parent or Child of a Mexican Citizen (clic #2-liga)

General Information

• Fill out the application form.
• Valid passport (must be valid for at least 6 months from the day the visa is issued) and one copy.
• If you are a U.S. citizen, your U.S. passport.
• If not a US citizen, a Green Card (officially known as a Permanent Resident Card)   or other proof of legal residence (e.g. parole, extension of permit, etc.)
• Submit a color photo, taken in the last 6 months, passport size. Without eyeglasses, with a plain white background. Face the camera directly with full face in view. 

• Proof of Financial Solvency: (one of the following)

Retirees and Pensioners

• Investments or bank accounts with monthly average balance for the past twelve months of ≈ $207,240 usd/month*, original and copy.
• Proof of pension with a monthly income greater than ≈ $5,180 usd/month* for the last six months, original and copy of monthly bank statements.

Parent or Child of a Mexican Citizen

• Valid Mexican Passport of the parent/child.
• Original and copy of birth certificate of the applicant.

The letter must have the printed signature.
3. Original and copy of public deed granted before a Mexican Notary Public that proves that you are the  owner of a property  in Mexico with a minimum value of $414,880 USD*.

 Full time student visa: more than 180 days

Visa with the approval of the "Instituto Nacional de Migración" (INM) (clic #5-liga) Anexo 3.6

General Information

• Fill out the application form.
• Valid passport (must be valid for at least 6 months from the day the visa is issued) and one copy.
• If you are a U.S. citizen, your U.S. passport.
• If not a US citizen, a Green Card (officially known as a Permanent Resident Card)   or other proof of legal residence (e.g. parole, extension of permit, etc.)
• Submit a color photo, taken in the last 6 months, passport size. Without eyeglasses, with a plain white background. Face the camera directly with full face in view. 
• Printed copy of the approval letter issued by the “Instituto Nacional de Migración” (INM) where the “Número Único de Trámite” (NUT) is indicated.

Import of Household Goods: information

Your household goods must be brought to Mexican territory either:

• At the time you enter Mexico with a temporary/permanent resident visa.
• Three months before your entry into Mexico.
• Six months after your entry into Mexico.

You will need your temporary/permanent resident card issued by Mexican Immigration - INM. In every case you will need a customs agent to release your personal belongings.

Only include your household goods, otherwise you may be required to pay a customs fee of 16% of the value of the item or it may be retained by customs.

The Household Goods Import Certificate (Certificado de lista de menaje de casa a extranjeros) can only be issued if you have a Temporary/Permanent Resident Visa, to import the following used household goods:

• Furniture,
• Clothes, books, pieces of art (as long as they are not a full collection that can be presented in galleries)
• Scientific, professional, or handcraft tools for your personal (not industrial) use.
• If you are a journalist, tools necessary to practice journalism.

If you wish to process the certificate in our Consulate General please bring:

1. Original and 4 copies of your passport.
2. Original and 4 copies of your temporary/permanent resident visa/card.
3. A letter addressed, to the Consul General of the Consulate General of Mexico in Raleigh, N.C., requesting the admittance into Mexican territory of your household goods, stating that you are not importing them in order to be sold but rather for personal use. You must state your address in the U.S.A. as well as your address in Mexico in the letter. Make four copies of it and sign each one.
4. If you are a temporary resident, you must declare in your letter that you commit to bring your household goods with you upon your return to the U.S.A. If you move to another address once you are in Mexico, you must notify customs authorities. If you are a permanent resident these two declarations are not needed.
5. Include a comprehensive list (in Spanish) of the goods you are importing, with a detailed description. Items may be counted by the number of boxes. For example: 2 cajas de ropa.

Any electrical device must be listed separately including the brand name, model, and serial number. For example: 1 TV 42”: Sony, Triton Series, QWEW1XXXXXXXXX.

 The application for the Household Goods Import Certificate must be done in person at any Mexican Consulate. 

 The Consular fee of the household goods import certificate is $185.00 USD. Please bring the exact amount in cash.

 Please note, in most cases, the certificate is able to be issued the same day; however, this cannot be guaranteed.  

 Pets: information  

In regards to pets, we do not handle any paperwork for this process; however, we can provide the general information as stated below:

The Office of Agriculture and Livestock Inspection (OALI) is established in most of Mexico’s air, sea and ground port of entries. You should present to OALI authorities a certificate to export animals issued by the corresponding federal authority or by a certified veterinary from the country of origin.

The certificate issued by the veterinary should be presented in original letterhead and should be attached by the veterinary’s ID and professional qualifications. The certificate should be issued within the last 15 days and must include the following information:

• Name and address of the owner, the characteristics of the pet and the final destination (address).
• The last time the animal was vaccinated against rabies and the next time a vaccine will be needed. If the animal is less than 3 months old this information will not be necessary.
• The fact that after doing a thorough inspection it has been verified that the animal is healthy.
• The last time the animal was treated against internal and external parasites and has no ectoparasites (within last 6 months).
• If any of the requirements are not fulfilled, you may contact a local veterinary to supply the vaccines or anti-parasites treatment, or to perform the inspection of the animal to verify how healthy it is. 
• The pet must travel in a clean carrier having no accessories. The carrier will have a preventive treatment through fumigation by the official personnel of SAGARPA-SENASICA. The pet may enter with a strap.

It is the authority of OALI to determine if the requirements have been fulfilled and thus to allow or not the entrance of the animal.
