President Peña Nieto’s Government to be an Ally to Investors

Silao, Guanajuato, January 15, 2013.

At the Inauguration ceremony for the Volkswagen Engine Plant, the company’s 100th factory in the world, President Enrique Peña Nieto expressed the Federal Government’s commitment to being a great ally “to all productive investment that creates jobs and opportunities for Mexicans,”, to large investors and to those who have important projects to develop in Mexico.

We want to be allies, facilitators, so that those investments can be productive and so that the projects developed in our country can prosper, he added.

The President noted that a very clear sign of this alliance, specifically with the automotive sector, was that just days after the beginning of the current Administration, Mexico “reached an agreement with the government of Argentina to reopen automotive production in our country for that market, which in recent years had been closed.”

After mentioning that bigger markets will continue to open up to Mexican products, the Head of the Federal Executive said that the automotive industry, as well as other sectors, “will find a very encouraging, promising situation in Mexico” that will enable the individual development opportunities for all Mexicans to expand.

He emphasized that among his Administration’s five primary goals are things “that have to do with a prosperous Mexico, which means ensuring that in the coming years the country experiences increased growth and better economic performance, so that the benefits generated by this national wealth are enjoyed by more Mexicans.”

The President of Mexico pointed out that “we are making the global experience our own, just like others in different latitudes have done before”. It is through economic growth that we will expand individual development opportunities for all Mexicans, based on different State-designed instruments for improved wealth distribution.

He added that the Government is committed to maintaining macroeconomic stability, which will enable the undertaking of public policies.

He noted that the inauguration in the Municipality of Silao of Volkswagen’s 100th factory in the world attests to the trust that exists in our country. He praised the company’s investment of over $550 million USD in the plant, as well as the $5 billion USD Volkswagen is projected to spend in the coming years throughout North America, stating “I’m sure Mexico will represent an option for greater investment.”

To state authorities he reiterated his commitment to working hand in hand to solidify projects that benefit Mexicans. “My government’s aim is to work directly with local authorities in close and true coordination of efforts that allow us to expand our capacity to produce greater benefits for Mexicans,” he said.

To the Governor of Guanajuato, Miguel Márquez Márquez, he stated that: “speaking for the Federal Government, I am extending a friendly hand, the hand of collaboration, coordination and willingness, so that we can jointly work to benefit the residents of the state of Guanajuato.”
